I don't hide people on forums because when taking part in them I want to see every point of view given. Even if the point of view is a silly one it is worth reading. Laughing, after all, has never killed anyone (that I know of) and the idea of ignoring someone because they see things in a way that I don't doesn't seem like the way life should be handled. I might be missing out on a new way of thinking about something. Limiting the way in which a person can think or learn seems like a very bad idea to me.

That's an easy one. He probably can't see the replies because he's blocked most of us!

I really couldn't give a shit whether I'm hidden or not.

The people whose opinions I respect haven't hidden me. Everyone else can inspect the underside of a moving train for all I care. They're just pixels on a screen.

I don't hide anyone. I want to see what my friends write, what people I respect write, what new people write. Those whose opinions I don't care for, I just skip over. Occasionally they will say something interesting or thought-provoking, which I would have missed if I'd used hide.

I have a very few people on hide. Three, that I can remember. No, four. Using that feature improves my experience here tremendously! Their posts might get quoted, but by an large I don't need to see their drivel. This pleases me.

I don't, and have never felt the need to 'hide' posters.

No one affects me badly enough that I would feel such a need.

I just skim the drivel. No one is on hide here. I do use Block on the other side, though.

I don't hide anybody, I have once or twice, but it is just annoying and breaks up the whole flow of the thread, so I always end up unhiding them within a few minutes, so I just don't bother anymore.

There is one person who, when he hides you, will send you a polite cmail explaining why. He wrote me and said he was hiding me when I had the animated avatar because he found it annoying. When I changed avatars, I wrote to let him know and he took me off hide. I thought that was rather nice of him over all.

But the OP will never know that, because he has me on hide.

I dont think the OP has me on hide. But he might as well, I dont have anything to say that he would be remotely interested in.

For most of it, I think it's rather silly.  A few exceptions to this.  If someone is specifically harassing another person on the forums because they are evading being blocked on the other side, hiding them can be the best option.  The other is that you have such a personality clash with another poster that it becomes in your best interest not to see what the person posts because you just can't resist tangling with them and it will end up getting you moderated........  You might just be better off.  Otherwise, I think most people should have the fortitude to just pass them by.  (Keeping in mind that sometimes messing with the other person is just plain more fun.)  While it doesn't apply to Me, some folks really don't want to see certain avatars that are within TOS, such as needle pics.

When hiding someone is based on someone that can't debate their point, can't handle the answers that they receive to their questions, or some other kind of silliness, I just think it's weak.  Publicly announcing that the action has been taken is beyond juvenile.  The general fora honestly doesn't care and in many cases just makes them think that much less of the person who is putting someone on hide.  It's like the kid who has to announce to the whole playground that he's taking his ball and going home because he gets butt hurt that he's losing the game.

I have to skim past the animated avatars rather quickly because reading and seeing them messes with my vision and my balance.

OMG do you remember a poster a while ago who used a really bright font color and everyone complained about it.  I can't remember who it was but good lord, i think many people hid that person simply because they went blind with a headache every time the person posted.

I generally don't hide anyone. I just skip over some people's posts if they're continually idiotic.

My policy, too. It's easy enough just to skim by the idiots.

You do a lot of skimming too, huh?

Dont judge me because I sin differently than you.
If you want it sugar coated, dont ask me what i think! It would violate TOS.

Now there is a thought.....wouldn't it be nice if we could just hide someone's avatar? I remember your moving one, it didn't bother me, but others that aren't moving, I just don't want to look at. Then of course there is Resident, whose avatars I ALWAYS want to see, since they are so funny.
