His house, his rules... as you said. My child, my rules, no matter what house we are in. No one has the legal or moral right to dismiss that fact without due process.

Aylee, for what it is worth, I just can't agree with you. But all of us have the right to raise our kids as we see fit, and I can't really say my way is better than anyone else's.
My kids, when they were about 16 and 19, went on a Christian mission trip to Kenya. They weren't interested in the mission or Christianity, but they were interested in doing a humanitarian trip, and a Christian group was the only one they found locally. They participated in everything but the prayers and the Christian missionary work. Whenever I talk to other people who were on that trip, they tell me how much they love my boys. My kids were not interested in the religious aspect, were unmoved by the prayer, politely declined any attempt to convert them, but were polite enough and tolerant enough to respect other beliefs. That was exactly what I was going for in their religious education.

Problem is, Iamsweet... is that if my kid does something wrong in someone else's house, I am still responsible. They cant have it both ways.

I am amazed this thread is still active. Take the Bible away from your kid or, just don't take them to that house. There are way worse things someone could be doing to children on Halloween.

I will get on it immediately! Amazingly, even here in the deep south, I have never heard of anyone trying this though.

Kids are bombarded by stuff that their parents disapprove of every day. I just don't understand the amount of disgust towards this particular thing. I guess it is along the lines of the "kink in public" threads though. Some say they would hit you if they saw you fucking on a bridge while they had their kids with them, some say it is a natural thing and they would use it to teach a lesson.

Heck there is plenty of stuff that aggravates the ever living hell outa me that would make yall shake ya heads too, I'd bet.

That would just be because yall were wrong though, of course.

When I was a kid, I got one of those Gideon New Testaments. Small, probably about 4" X 6". I didn't necessarily want it and remember tossing it in the trash at a friend's house, in the basement. We were watching horror flicks with my friend and his older brother and several of his friends. I remember one of them took the bible out of the trash and tore out three pages and then used them to roll three huge joints. I remember him saying "Man, Doug! Why didn't you tell me you had a Bible? We been using this shitty beer can pipe all night." Not really relevant to the conversation, except that I remember getting the bible. Got one a few times, this was in Georgia, north of Atlanta. Maybe it's a southern thing.

I am right outside of Atlanta, and I have used pages from the Bible and Tampax papers to roll a joint with. I must ask some Yankee friends if they do the same!

I am from Detroit and while I have never had the need to roll up a bible to get high, I know a lot of people around here who have. So I guess they do it in the north as well.

My kids were raised Pagan, but they had to learn about other religions because they're going to have to live with them. Our reference shelf has a Bible, a Koran, the Book of Mormon, the Dao De Jing, the Geeta and the Diamond Sutra, among others.

When I was little my well-meaning grandparents gave me Bible Stories For Kiddies books which made a big impression for a year or so. My very wise Dad didn't object, he just gave me a simple book on the origins of all the world's religions and let me make my own judgement... which left me an atheist till I was 30.

If being deeply pissed isn't motivated by anger, then please explain what is? Generally I don't threaten to punch someone in the face unless I am really angry. Now if that same asshole was handing out candy with pins in it, then I would be deeply pissed and do a lot more than punch him. But he wasn't. He was handing out books which are very easy to toss when you go through your kids bag at the end of the night. You do go through their bags with them, right?

I said I would be. That is not indicative of anger at the moment, either now or in any post on this thread. No, I do not need to go through the bag to see what is put in it. A bible would never have made it that far. But, as you do not have children, I didn't let mine run free and wild on any night, let alone that one.

Every parents has their own set of rules... what they will accept and what they wont. I do not judge how others raise their children, yet I am seeing a lot of judgmental attitudes over how a few of us have raised/are raising ours.

Adults inserting their beliefs upon other peoples' children without permission of their parents would lead any parent to anger.

I never had the bible thing happen, but one family in our old neighborhood did pass out those creepy Chick religious tracts. I always read them, because they are hilarious and kitschy, but I always threw them away after that, I didn't let my kids read that shit.

As to your second suggestion. They will always tell you? Interesting concept. The man who was supposedly giving out bibles this year... what was his address?

Cant be that hard to find his address.... can it?

My comment about meeting religious fucks in my driveway with a gun in my hand had to do with them trespassing on my private property, not giving my kid a bible. I am beyond frustrated with missionary types ignoring my no trespassing signs because they think they have a message I need to hear. So anyway, that was the context of that. My property, my right, according to those of you who thought it was OK for someone to give some poor kid a bible instead of some candy corn.
I posted in another post how I would deal with someone giving my kid a bible without my consent. It was assertive, not violent.

But raise your kids anyway you want, by all means. I just didn't want mine being exposed to superstition and bull shit. It worked.
