I am from Detroit and while I have never had the need to roll up a bible to get high, I know a lot of people around here who have. So I guess they do it in the north as well.

Yeah I've seen that done, also Bibles are great for starting a campfire.

I don't think I have even expressed an opinion about the rightness of him handing out Bibles.  I just commented on the reactions to his actions.

I don't know how the law is there, but here, with a No Trespassing sign or a No Solicitors sign, ya can call the cops on the folks.

Heck, that is what the cops get paid the big bucks for.

If he doesn't want to participate in Halloween it's pretty simple. He just shouldn't opt-in by turning his porch lights on.

I'm in agree-ish-ment with tazzy on this, we're talking about people specifically endeavoring to undermine and supplant what parents are teaching their children. That's the sort of thing that our society generally agrees isn't kosher. Now I can't agree with punching someone in the face, that seems like the sort of extreme over reaction that should land someone in jail but I do consider it quite justifiable for parents to get miffed at these jesus weeners.

It takes the sheriff 45 minutes to get here, minimum.  When you live in the country, you learn how to self help.

Not in that article, that I saw.  I would imagine if he was out enough to have a story done, he was not attempting to hide his identity though.

Either way, to ME, whether you knew about it, or were surprised to find a Bible in your kids trick or treat bag, the reactions I questioned are not something that *I* understand.

Ah so if someone starts preaching to your child about the evils of being a christian/Wiccan/atheist/ect... its perfectly ok with you and nothing anyone should get upset about.

You are entitled to live your life and raise your children as you wish... and so am I.

I would be deeply pissed... and said if he started "preaching" I would probably would have punched him in the face. Other than that.....

No thank you works for me

I still stand behind those words.

I said I would be. That is not indicative of anger at the moment, either now or in any post on this thread. No, I do not need to go through the bag to see what is put in it. A bible would never have made it that far. But, as you do not have children, I didn't let mine run free and wild on any night, let alone that one.

Every parents has their own set of rules... what they will accept and what they wont. I do not judge how others raise their children, yet I am seeing a lot of judgmental attitudes over how a few of us have raised/are raising ours.

Adults inserting their beliefs upon other peoples' children without permission of their parents would lead any parent to anger.

I understood anothers post to be about anger in the situation we were discussing. I would hope that no one reading this is going to get that angry over a forum post. I think it's funny that you assume I don't have kids. You don't have to give birth to have them or help raise them and I have plenty. They all grew up to be happy and healthy and are now having more of there own.

It would not be ok with me for anyone to do any of those things.  I would simply walk away.  The thought of getting angry or punching them in the face would never cross my mind.

I am not disagreeing with anyones rights to raise their children as they see fit.  I am just saying it amazes me that some expressed that their anger at it might lead them to violence.  I simply do not get that at all.

It's all good Tazzy.  I agree with you 90% of the time.  This is just something I do not understand causing anger.  Rolling your eyes and walking away, telling ya kid "Ya remember Aunt Myrtle with the 17 cats, he is crazy like her" maybe, but not anger.

people around here preach on the street corners all the time. They walk up to me and hand me flyers....wiccans, christians, political leanings, etc....I just walk away. I don't even say a single word....I just walk away. Did the same thing when I had my daughter with me unless she wanted to stop and listen. Sometimes she did.

Never seemed like a difficult concept to grasp and never understood the anger from either side.

You go to NYC and you'll find people preaching to you on every single block. You simply walk away unless you want to have a miserable time in NYC.

Can anyone tell me, would punching someone in the face for preaching constitute a hate crime?

I personally feel that all crimes are hate crimes.  Never heard of anyone saying "Well, I really like them, so I killed them, robbed them, beat them up".

If it is, I would be guilty.

There is this lady who lives down the street. When she sees me, she wants to talk, and without fail, its always about religion. I smile and listen, interject little, and when she is done, she wanders off.

For me, there is a world of difference as to what I will tolerate for myself, and what I would tolerate on my kids behalf.

View that however you want.

I hope you're just trying to be provocative by talking like an asshole. I would prefer to think that leaving your kids without a mother because she's in jail serving a sentence for assault and battery is also something you wouldn't tolerate on their behalf.

K.
