I'm gonna repost this with slightly different wording because it got removed last night and it's My own damn fault for not paying attention. (ty VAD for bringing it to my attention)

Religion is like a penis. A large portion of the population has one and some are inordinately proud of theirs.

That doesn't give you a right to flaunt it in public or cram it down some unsuspecting person's throat.

History does not record anywhere at any time a religion that has any rational basis. Religion is a crutch for people not strong enough to stand up to the unknown without help. But, like dandruff, most people do have a religion and spend time and money on it and seem to derive considerable pleasure from fiddling with it.

There is a difference between something potentially traumatic and simple information. There is nothing in the bible which is in any way as traumatic as a brutal murder of a close friend and you know it.
A humble advice: Continue with this line on thinking. Re-read some things of the Bible. Think about it twice. Consider "degrees" and the sentence "I dislike it if somebody does this" in opposition to "I will cut the throat of the bastard who dares to do this". I think you will understand something if you do. Best regards.

Aylee, even being a public conversation, you are speaking to me. Your reaction is disrespectful and I do not think that our communication will have any value to any of us. Therefore I will set you on "hide" now. I wish you a good life. Goodbye.

aaaaand with that, the last person was put on hide. There is now noone left to discuss with and thus a long career in blocking people comes to an end. [sm=rofl.gif]

I was just going to ask if he could even see anyone anymore! LOL but then I wasn't sure if he could see me so...

Yes, you're right, but who are any of us to say what is "traumatic" enough to warrant a bit of shielding until parents can get there first to explain it? I'm not so sure that I would feel comfortable allowing a Nazi to explain the Holocaust to my daughter. I'd swoop down in a heartbeat and pull her out of that if I could. And there may very well be people who feel just that strongly about the Bible. I don't, but some may. I explain things to my daughter through the lens of a vegetarian - before she visits McDonalds on her fields trips. Because I am raising her, not to be a mini-me, but because I'm sharing my values and comforts with her. She's free to make her own decisions, but no....not without my input and guidance first. That's what makes me her mom.

Oh please. Sterile explanations of extreme punishments for sin are not going to faze anyone old enough to understand the language. I read the damn thing when I was in single-digit ages and gave not a single fuck. It's no more violent than Saturday morning cartoons.

We all do that, all the time, right here on the boards. Everyone does it, everywhere. What is so different from you flaunting your opinion right here in this posting and him flaunting his religion on his doorstep?

To children. That's the difference. Religion being a special kind of opinion, similar to political opinion: complex, potentially very harmful, and for adults. At least this is my opinion. I do not say that the man should be arrested. But... do I like what he does? No, I do not like it.

Input and guidance being here defined as "information control." That was all I was ever asserting - the only reason to stop this is if you wish to control what they do and do not learn, and/or contextualize it such that they agree with you before being exposed to other viewpoints. Several people asserted that they didn't like this because they wanted their kids to make their own decisions - I have simply illustrated that the opposite is true and that they dislike it because they don't get the opportunity to tell their kids what to think ahead of time.

Complete? Amazing. But apparently you forgot some parts already. Anyway, I prefer not to insist.
I know as a positive fact that the Bible can traumatize a child. As a positive fact, scientifically proven, by at least one scientist I know and respect and who has an own bibliography longer as my arm. But if you prefer to think that this is not the case... your choice. I stop here.

So, you would like him better if he handed out chocolate and added to the already unhealthy diets of todays young?

You don't really have to like it but you do have to realize he is doing no one any real harm and you are free to ignore him just as he is free to hand out his bibles.

If I continue, does that mean I get a hide, too? Because I don't think anyone has hidden me yet, so this is a pretty exciting moment for me[:D]. If you have a citation, I'd be glad to read it. I assume his work is published?

You just lost me. I don't really understand what you're saying. But that's okay. I don't really have anything more to add, anyway, I don't think.

Well I'm not really sure what I did to piss him off but I think maybe being a female sub was enough...

It's usually because he figures someone is outwitting him, and rather than step up to the plate he puts you on hide. I don't think he realises that womenfolk can be quite smart, and even more educated/qualified than him.

It's the interwebz version of sticking your fingers in your ears and chanting "LALALALALALALA" really loudly.

I understand what you are getting at, some things a parent needs to be able to put their own spin on as to help their child digest it in a way the parent thinks best. I agree, but I also don't see what this has to do with handing out bibles... he isnt making the kids sit on his porch and read them nor is he shouting verses at them as they walk away sad and sans candy...
