Yes, you're right, but who are any of us to say what is "traumatic" enough to warrant a bit of shielding until parents can get there first to explain it? I'm not so sure that I would feel comfortable allowing a Nazi to explain the Holocaust to my daughter. I'd swoop down in a heartbeat and pull her out of that if I could. And there may very well be people who feel just that strongly about the Bible. I don't, but some may. I explain things to my daughter through the lens of a vegetarian - before she visits McDonalds on her fields trips. Because I am raising her, not to be a mini-me, but because I'm sharing my values and comforts with her. She's free to make her own decisions, but no....not without my input and guidance first. That's what makes me her mom.

Best regards. Oh please. Sterile explanations of extreme punishments for sin are not going to faze anyone old enough to understand the language. I read the damn thing when I was in single-digit ages and gave not a single fuck. It's no more violent than Saturday morning cartoons.

That was all I was ever asserting - the only reason to stop this is if you wish to control what they do and do not learn, and/or contextualize it such that they agree with you before being exposed to other viewpoints. Several people asserted that they didn't like this because they wanted their kids to make their own decisions - I have simply illustrated that the opposite is true and that they dislike it because they don't get the opportunity to tell their kids what to think ahead of time.

As a positive fact, scientifically proven, by at least one scientist I know and respect and who has an own bibliography longer as my arm. I don't really have anything more to add, anyway, I don't think. :) I understand what you are getting at, some things a parent needs to be able to put their own spin on as to help their child digest it in a way the parent thinks best. I agree, but I also don't see what this has to do with handing out bibles... he isnt making the kids sit on his porch and read them nor is he shouting verses at them as they walk away sad and sans candy...
