ORIGINAL: rulemylife He wasn't accused by the media. The media just reported it. If there were no substance to the allegations then why were there two out-of-court financial settlements? But I do find this conservative whining about the media to be very amusing. You sit there and listen to Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, Beck, and let them convince you into the nonsense they spew to draw ratings. Then you complain about the "establishment media"? Well, first, I don't really "listen" all that much to any of the media mavens you list above. I do occasionally, along with mavens on CNN. MSNBC, CNBC et al, and reading the NYT, the LAT's and dozens if not hundreds of other sources. Including, recently the Communist Party of the US website, which I quoted in a thread. Second, read the article critically, and notice a few facts: anything damaging to him is attributed to anonymous sources and covered by "can't talk about it": even though they do seem to be talking about it. Third, even the reports that are given from the anonymous sources, nothing of substance is actually reported: only that there are claims of things. In other words, they have no real information about what happened, and any facts to support anything: they have nothing more than supposition and innuendo. Fourth, I wouldn't be surprised if there were a couple of settlements: but the "5 figure" numbers ($10,000 is the number that comes to mind) mentioned as being the range of such settlements tells me that such settlements were most likely an economic decision: it was a choice between paying lawyers hundreds of thousands, or a much smaller "go away" fee to the claimant, and from an economic decision many times nuisance suits are cheaper to settle like this. That's personally not a decision I would make: I've paid lawyers 10s of thousands of dollars to fight BS lawsuits and accusations before. I've recently mentioned in the forums that I paid a lawyer $1250 in order to tell an insurance company that wanted me to pay only $1000 to go fuck themselves. But not all people and businesses make that same "morality versus cost" decision, and I understand it. There are other factors, but that's enough for now. I will say that I've also read about the possibility that it was the Perry campaign which floated the story to the media. If true, just a good reason that I would rather cut my throat, than vote for Perry. Firm
