Cain is becoming unglued, as evidence of sexual harassment comes to light...

A Clarence Thomas redux?

Drudge has been featuring this for a couple of days now:

POLITICO: Two women accused Cain of inappropriate behavior...

Given Clarence Thomas' subsequent corruption, maybe it IS important to consider the man's lack of character...

After all, wasn't Cain CEO of a lobbying firm, too? Can you get more "Washington Insider" than that???

Perot was a better candidate. Remember when he warned us about NAFTA?

DarkSteven -> RE: Have you ever been accused, sir, in your life of harassment by a woman? (10/31/2011 5:39:39 AM)

In  fairness to him, anyone at his level is more likely to have this than someone at your or my level.  And in Washington, harassment is papered over.  I don't think the harassment allegations will really hurt him politically, more than it did Thomas, but his reaction to it might hurt him.

Right now, he's seeing scrutiny more than he's ever known, and being crabby now will sink him.

tazzygirl -> RE: Have you ever been accused, sir, in your life of harassment by a woman? (10/31/2011 5:41:56 AM)

Cain is Cain, and not Thomas.

Its best to keep them seperate.

The man told me about this story, and when I looked it up, I expected some alex jones-ish web site. Instead, it originated at Politico... and they seem extremely willing to back the story completely.

He denies the accusations. He would be a fool not to deny them. Make people prove he is guilty. Smart man.

After Thomas, without a smoking gun.... like one in Cain's own handwriting... one associated with Cain's personal lawyer... or a video/audio recording.... im not too sure this will greatly affect his running.

Folks gotta understand that this is a plus for conservatives,...... amongst other conservatives.

Especially, if it`s brought up in the "media".

The "high tech lynching has begun".

I missed this technique, when I said before that Cain will be accused of all kinds of things by the press.

I knew, but missed the fact that as a black conservative, Dem supportive members of the establishment media would use the racist meme of a black man with white women to stir up racist sentiment, and then attempt to metaphysically "lynch" him.

It's exactly like Thomas, in that respect.

We`re see`n an effort lately to marginalize Politico,.... as a "lefty" source.

In the cult of Con,that`s the kiss of death.Cons will auto-ignore anything labeled as left or liberal or even main stream media.

We all know how some cons(the rabid kind) dismiss damming or embarassing news/info about themselves, if it comes from a MSM source or what cons call the "liberal media".

It`s a daily occurrences around this forum.[:D]

I mean you could have actual video tape of the actual republican saying the actual words themselves ,.........but if it`s reported by a "liberal" news source(almost all media is liberal in the con mindset)it`s outright dismissed as biased.

Politico is(or was)one of the sites everyone, conservative to liberal thought of as truethful and fair, like snopes.Cons will(would) link to and use Politico as a source to back their point.Politico has always had a rep. for being fair, accurate and truthful.

So as things like this come out on good reputable news/info sites like Politico, look for cons to attack the source and ignore the facts.

For many cons, the rabid shamless irrational hate/fear/loathing grumpy type,(sanity,rich,subrob,az-boss-boy,luckydog)there isn`t much left to do or work with, given their political lot.

Cons have no problem throwing a formally admired person(even a republican)or news source under da-bus it if suits them.

Sanity, you are the epitome of hypocrisy.

You post threads complaining of Obama's fundraising from wealthy donors yet have no problem with Cain doing the same.

From your Examiner link:

Last week I attended a Cain fundraiser at a private home north of Atlanta. (To call it a private home doesn't quite do it justice; it was a 42,000 square-foot Italianate mansion complete with its own lifesize replica of main street in cowboy-era Tombstone, Arizona, with Cain standing in the recreated Oriental saloon to greet big donors.)

Non-sequitur.

Different issue.  If you wish to discuss Obama's (and much of the presses') hypocrisy on the issue, start another thread.

He wasn't accused by the media.

The media just reported it.

If there were no substance to the allegations then why were there two out-of-court financial settlements?

But I do find this conservative whining about the media to be very amusing.

You sit there and listen to Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, Beck, and let them convince you into the nonsense they spew to draw ratings.

Then you complain about the "establishment media"?

Corporate Media... Not "establishment" or "mainstream"

Corporate. As in: NBC says exactly what GE tells them to.

Thats a good collection of the conservative posters here.

I posted this list to head off the argument that Politico is a leftist rag... because we all know it would be coming. Problem is,,, if its so leftist, why have so many conservatives utilized it in so many threads?

Lets not get into this argument.... as you can see, it would be nothing more than a derailment.

Well, first, I don't really "listen" all that much to any of the media mavens you list above.  I do occasionally, along with mavens on CNN. MSNBC, CNBC et al, and reading the NYT, the LAT's and dozens if not hundreds of other sources.  Including, recently the Communist Party of the US website, which I quoted in a thread.

Second, read the article critically, and notice a few facts:  anything damaging to him is attributed to anonymous sources and covered by "can't talk about it": even though they do seem to be talking about it.

Third, even the reports that are given from the anonymous sources, nothing of substance is actually reported: only that there are claims of things.  In other words, they have no real information about what happened, and any facts to support anything: they have nothing more than supposition and innuendo.

Fourth, I wouldn't be surprised if there were a couple of settlements: but the "5 figure" numbers ($10,000 is the number that comes to mind) mentioned as being the range of such settlements tells me that such settlements were most likely an economic decision: it was a choice between paying lawyers hundreds of thousands, or a much smaller "go away" fee to the claimant, and from an economic decision many times nuisance suits are cheaper to settle like this.

That's personally not a decision I would make: I've paid lawyers 10s of thousands of dollars to fight BS lawsuits and accusations before.  I've recently mentioned in the forums that I paid a lawyer $1250 in order to tell an insurance company that wanted me to pay only $1000 to go fuck themselves.  But not all people and businesses make that same "morality versus cost" decision, and I understand it.

There are other factors, but that's enough for now.

I will say that I've also read about the possibility that it was the Perry campaign which floated the story to the media.  If true, just a good reason that I would rather cut my throat, than vote for Perry.

Did I say it was a leftist rag, of any type?

Conservatives quote the NYT, the Washington Post and a lot of other media as well.  Doesn't mean that they aren't "establishment media".  Just the opposite.

I do watch organizations to see if they follow Robert Conquest's Second Law of Politics, though:

2. Any organization not explicitly right-wing sooner or later becomes left-wing.

I dislike Cain and what he stands for. Would never vote for him. But I have to agree with Steven. Being accused of shit like that is as common to a guy in power as wearing a suit, white shirt, and tie.

Hell, my former boss was accused of it AFTER I fired the twit, and I know he never did anything out of like with her.

If there's no merit to the claims, where was there a financial settlement?

Do YOU usually write people a check for no reason?

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Have you ever been accused, sir, in your life of harassment by a woman? (10/31/2011 9:14:03 AM)

People often settle claims just to make them go away. The reason may or may not be that there is something to the claim, but win, lose , or draw, fighting accusations like these is emotionally exhausting, embarrassing and expensive. Sometimes people decide just to write a check to make it go away. That is not exactly writing a check for "no reason".
