One other thing, just what did folks with ataxic cerebral palsy do before about the 1930's?

You lost me here... what are you talking about?

The gal says that the ataxic cerebral palsy made her love technology which is why she was stealing (piracy) stuff off the internet. (Have you SEEN some of the fines incurred for that?)

I am figuring that about the 1930's is when technology started really coming around to be available. So. . . were people with this same thing stealing sextants and steam engines, or what?

Owner59 -> RE: Monster....... (11/3/2011 9:29:43 AM)

So when you stole some candy as a child,your dad beat you into submission with a belt ?

And this is ok?

exactly -- the punishment does not, in any way, fit the crime.

Owner59 -> RE: Monster....... (11/3/2011 9:45:34 AM)

There are hundreds of ways to discipline children without violence.

If one wants effective discipline to stop destructive or unwanted behaviours,violence in NOT the best way.

Some people,like my Aspergers brother, thrive on the attention they get from acting out.No amount of violence stopped him.Flesh and bone can only take so much.But ground a kid for two weeks without tv(or today,the netz) or a phone and watch the turn araound.[:D]

What that "judge" was doing was way over the line,even to folks who have spanked their kid.

What he was doing, was more about his personal problems and lack of personal control.

Its a stretch, but since Ataxic CP affects fine motor skills, it could very well be that the video games actually helped her in that aspect.

I have seen the fines, I dont agree with them... but not the point of this thread.

If she was breaking the law, as a Judge, he should have turned her in instead of beating her. He only made the situation worse for himself. She was 16... he was a judge... his wrong grossly outweighs hers.

The same thing as diabetics before insulin? The best they could?

That wasnt discipline... discipline isnt in anger. he admitted he was angry.

And I say again, *all judges* should be elected.
I wonder if he used a penis pump behind his desk like that other judge?
In Massachusetts they pull them over for drunken driving.

Owner59 -> RE: Monster....... (11/3/2011 10:13:35 AM)

Oh yeah,that`s going to stop this kind of shit......[8|]

Simple answers from simple minds.

He was elected.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Monster....... (11/3/2011 10:28:23 AM)

The father in that video was way out of control. My dad got angry at me one time when i was a teenager, and starting kicking my shins and screaming. It was very unlike him, he was ordinarily a patient and nice guy, and it only happened once. Still, our relationship was never the same after that and I never really forgave him. Acting violently out of anger is not how to discipline your children. The fact that this girl taped it shows that she was expecting it, meaning it has happened before.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Monster....... (11/3/2011 10:30:28 AM)

she said the reason she had a camera set up was because the beatings were escalating, and her mom was no help, so she wanted evidence.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Monster....... (11/3/2011 10:32:07 AM)

Hopefully the prosecutors office picks up the case and goes after him for battering her.

tazzygirl -> RE: Monster....... (11/3/2011 10:32:39 AM)

So was this idiot Judge...

quote:

In 1995 he ran for judge in Luzerne County on the Democratic ticket and was elected to a ten year term. He was re-elected to a second ten year term in 2005. Ciavarella was also active in several civic and Catholic organizations. He is married to the former Cindy Baer and the couple have three children.[1]

What was his crime... the crime he plead guilty too?

quote:

The answers became a bit clearer on Thursday as the judge, Mark A. Ciavarella Jr., and a colleague, Michael T. Conahan, appeared in federal court in Scranton, Pa., to plead guilty to wire fraud and income tax fraud for taking more than $2.6 million in kickbacks to send teenagers to two privately run youth detention centers run by PA Child Care and a sister company, Western PA Child Care.

Electing Judges dont change anything.

Oh, and it still wasnt clear at the printing of that story as to what to do with all the children still in custody..

While prosecutors say that Judge Conahan, 56, secured contracts for the two centers to house juvenile offenders, Judge Ciavarella, 58, was the one who carried out the sentencing to keep the centers filled.

“In my entire career, I’ve never heard of anything remotely approaching this,” said Senior Judge Arthur E. Grim, who was appointed by the State Supreme Court this week to determine what should be done with the estimated 5,000 juveniles who have been sentenced by Judge Ciavarella since the scheme started in 2003. Many of them were first-time offenders and some remain in detention.

With Judge Conahan serving as president judge in control of the budget and Judge Ciavarella overseeing the juvenile courts, they set the kickback scheme in motion in December 2002, the authorities said.

They shut down the county-run juvenile detention center, arguing that it was in poor condition, the authorities said, and maintained that the county had no choice but to send detained juveniles to the newly built private detention centers.

Most state judges are elected. Federal judges aren't

I think the statute of limitations has run out.

ETA: You beat me to it, Hilly!!

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Monster....... (11/3/2011 10:42:32 AM)

Oh sorry. I wasn't paying enough attention to when it happened. I wonder why she waited until now.

Maybe it was deliberate so that he would NOT be prosecuted. Mild case of Stockholm syndrome?

What a terrible thought. It might also be because she was trying to protect the mother. The article says the mother is out of the marriage now.

hlen5 -> RE: Monster....... (11/3/2011 10:44:41 AM)

In an interview she said she just wants him to get help.

ETA: I believe they are divorced because neighbors saw him and his girlfriend packing up to get out of town.
