We are still suffering the victorian era of children should be seen and not heard, growing up that kind of punishment wasnt unusual, I got beat by my parents so did my friends, it was "normal"
Times have changed, but it will take a couple of generations to clear the past beliefs, and even then, there will always be people who use violence and sadism on the people they are sposed to love, and I mean non consensual violence.
I cant talk for america growing up, I was caned as a child, then they changed to slipper for girls, then nothing, now if someone lays a hand on you, you can have em arrested for assault... changing slow, but this guy needs to have something happen to him.
A child doesnt deserve that kind of beating ever.

Too true....what a child " deserves" from the people that are supposed to raise,love and nurture that child is exactly that...raising(teaching them the basic morality of right and wrong) ,love( why have,adopt or choose to raise children if you are incapable of imparting love ?) and nurturing( children need to be encouraged to discover who they are and who they intend to grow up to be). Beating a child accomplishes none of the above,and does in fact cancel out any attempts to impart any of those basic human needs.

Lilly, maybe it's not a racial thing at all but a socioeconomic thing.

This part of the country is rather ummmmm pale ya might say but I daresay there are people here who think nothing is wrong with the above. Wanna hear some kids being beat? Go to Wal Mart on saturday afternoon.
This area, though, is very old testament oriented and quite poor overall.

that's true
and i want to make a point to say that i don't dislike other black people or think i'm "better" than them. i think sometimes when i talk about what i think is wrong with "things," people take that as me being a white-person-wannabe, or that i don't like "my own kind' or some other silly thing, which isn't true in the least.
i'm a person who says what she thinks, and that's all.

but anyway, you might be right -- it mibht be a socioeconomic issue. where i'm from is mostly rural white and they were pretty much the same, too. they were very old testament and thought thrashing kids was a-okay for any infraction. so you might be right there, Hill.

I got spankings when I was growing up, and I am none the worse for wear because of them, they got my attention.

If my dad had ever done anything like this to me, I believe I would have killed him while he slept.

Fucking disgusting.  I hope he goes to prison and gets his ass beat regularly for a long ass time.

I would love to see his sentencing history.  I would bet a quarter that he was excessively rough on defendants, in some sick ass attempt to hid his own dickheadery.

Gawd.
