Status: offline 		I put in the application october 31st and she emailed me back but I didn't get it but I saw her today and explained what happened, she asked me when I wanted to take him home and I said ASAP, and she said I'll follow you home when you leave to check to make sure your yard is secure and you can have him tonight.

I am very excited, and nervous, a deaf dog is new to me. I am looking forward to teaching him and watching him improve

Status: offline 		Well maybe not on par, because people walk him a lot, actually, but it's for little bits of a time and then he's back in a cage till next time, so he'll get more quality than at the rescue, cause I'll be with him all day and play with him through out the whole day.

he keeps me jumping that's for sure lol. He's already found some paper he wants to rip up,, and then found something else he wanted to bother

Status: offline 		He's actually a good motivation to get up, because unlike hearing dogs who you can just open the door and let them run out into the yard, I can't do that because I need to or am supposed to know where he is at all times, so Ih ave to take him outside for his potties, and for yard time and not just sit on my butt an let the dog go out alone.

Status: offline 		You'll also have to put your dog (and yourself!) on a schedule. Dogs do not let you sleep in or forget to feed them or put them out. (without repercussions!) The best thing you can do is set up certain feeding times (we do breakfast and dinner with sometimes a treat or two in the afternoon) The dog you're fostering will be much happier if he knows what to expect and when to expect it. (and this is coming from a very right-brained person who finds it difficult to stick to a schedule!)

At the Shelter he was fed twice a day, and snacks are when ever you wish, with in reason, they didn't tell me what time he eats dinner at, but he eats breakfast between 9 and 10 I think. I left a voice message about it and they'll hopefully call me back. And he can be out in the yard alone, As for going out for potties, I think every 20 minutes or so is good right?

Status: offline 		I wish I had a video camera at the moment I showed bones the yard, the turkeys have never seen a dog in their yard before, so the turkeys and the ginni's were following us as I let bones explore the yard. The chickens saw him sqaucked and ran The ginnis were screaming up a storm too. Bones did so wonderful about not bothering the birds too, when I took him out for his evening pee pee, he walked right up to one and didn't even do anything. The only reason he got right up to one was cause it was dark and I was next to the turkeys cause I saw them, poor babies got scared by my sudden pressense and behgan peepping.

Status: offline 		I've never had a puppy. But I have talked to someone who had great success taking her puppy out every 20 or 30 minutes. She set a timer. *lol* Good luck!!!

But bones, while he'll fetch ball and likes to, he has to see where it went or he won't chase it. and you can't lob it because apparently the farther out it goes the sooner he looses site of it. if he doesn't see where it went, he won't chase it.

Yes, that is a consideration, Daddy and I talked about this cause sometimes at the shelter there were babies I'd want and couldn't have and would be sad, and Daddy says, go and play with them and be with them and love on them but try to keep some objectivity, and just try rmemeber they're not yours and can't be yours. Daddy can't keep that objectivity very well so he doesn't want to go to the rescue with me. At least with bones if nobody wants him we can keep him. Deaf dogs are not highly adoptable, nobody wants dogs with issues, they want the easy dogs first.

Twenty minutes for a Golden Retriever? How old is he? Because really, that is too frequent and he will want to always go out at those intervals. You want him to learn to do his business just 3-4 times a DAY. Waking up, after breakfast, after dinner and before bed. He is a large enough breed to hold it.

You also should be crating him when you are out, especially since he gets into things when you are there. Further he is used to be crated (much better term than cage, don't ya think?) so this will assist him in adjusting. Most crate trained dogs look at their crates as *their* space. They will often spend time in there even when not required. It should be just big enough for him to stand up and turn around. It will discourage him from messing in the crate because most times they don't want to lie in it so they will hold it in.

He's deaf so what types of hand signals are you going to use to train him? Not a bad idea to get yourself a book on American Sign Language and teach him signs that represent the tasks in ASL. Don't forget that while he can't hear, he CAN feel vibrations. You can use vibrations in two ways, just like you would your voice. Find something that you can make vibrations on the floor with. Not like walking, more like the bass on a stereo. It will get his attention to look up, so you can sign to him what command you want to give. You can also find some other type of vibration that can represent your "Good Boy!" voice by action, something more than just the happy face an rub a dub stroking of his coat. Something you use with this that will represent your voice, so even if you aren't doing the happy good boy face, or the rub a dub stroke, he knows you are happy with him. Hysterically, (blushes save me from myself!) the only "gadget" I can come up with is like a vibrating egg or a little bullet! They are the right size, have the right vibration for the task!

Don't forget that just because you have Bones now, you get a buy on going to the gym pool. Schedule your day so you fit both in. The beauty of this is Bones is going to help you lose that apathy about your life and through you he will learn to use his "voice"
