Graffiti art?
I gots your graffiti art
Banksy is the man.

Check out the slide shows...
http://www.banksy.co.uk/newoutdoors/outdoors.html#

didn't one of his 'rivals' die in very suspicious circumstances?

just saying like

sm

No he didn't die. Robbo is king of graffiti in the UK and Banksy is king of street art. Banksy is hailed by the general public and Robbo by the more underground graffiti artists. http://londonist.com/2011/08/robbofundraiser.php
The war started when Banksy defaced one of Robbos paintings.

Well, let's see. It is illegal for politicians here to put advertising on public property so I guess they would have their happy ass out there removing it.

It is illegal for them to put it on private property without permission so I guess their happy ass would be out there removing it.

If they're putting it on My property, it is a poster which can be ripped down in a second or 2 but I'd still have their happy ass out there removing it.

In case you havent been able to guess, tagging with spray paint is a bit different from a poster. Paint takes time, effort and money to remove. I bought my building and personally spent tens of thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours personally rehabbing it so it can be used as office space. That's right boy. I did every bit of the work except the electrical and HVAC.

I have a proposition for ya tommy boy. Come tag it and find out.

I promise to be loaded with "Cheney shot" and not Buck.

Your comparison is totally idiotic.

One is legal advertising that is done by permission.

The other is vandalism and destruction of property.

I am very conflicted by this topic. There is a part of me… the rebellious, anti-authoritarian, rebellion-for the-sake-of-rebellion… part that wholly approves of “guerilla” art. But another part of me finds the whole notion to be the self-aggrandizing and very immature. Much of it depends, I suppose, on whether or not we like the work in question. If we like it, then it is “art.” If we don’t like it, then it is “graffiti.”

In the end it all comes down to respect. If you respect others, their rights, their property, then you are not going to deface such property with bullshit “tags” that really do nothing more that proclaim “I was here” or “this is my turf.” It is the “artistic” equivalent of a four year old’s temper tantrum.

So, if all you’re going to do is spray paint vulgar language, your initials, or some repetitive “icon,” then I’d say grow up, get a life, and maybe take a shot at some “serious” art (many cities now have art center where studio space can be rented). If you are going to engage in some guerilla art then at least put some thought into it and make it something that (at least) some people will appreciate (ya can’t please everybody) and will generate serious controversy and discussion.

One of my favorite examples of what I’d call guerilla art is the late great Pink Lady of Malibu.

Here are some photos of the Pink Lady in color.

So you are someone who is fighting to be understood and listened to but anyone who disagrees with you is a "sheep?" Perhaps look at your own intolerance and lack of understanding.

As to what should be allowed or not: I had a message I wanted to get out.  I bought an old black Volvo wagon and painted the whole thing in chalk board paint.  I drove it around and parked it in various lots with a basket of chalk and sign asking people to feel free to express themselves.  I had some wonderful art on it from time to time.  Guess what, it was all legal and expressive.  I also had an office downtown and I got sick and tired of kids painting their nickname on my door and thinking they were some kind misunderstood street artist.  I talked to them and wasn't impressed at all.

I understand the grafitti on the walls of the baths in pompei have some stunning examples of art and prose...much of it on the order of "for a good time call xxx".
Yesterdays" childish ,self-aggrandizing and very immature scrawls" with the “artistic” merit of a four year old’s temper tantrum. Have become todays historical treasures.

Against My better judgement, I'll address your utter idiocy.

There is a little thing here called a sign ordinance. Politicians can only place signs on private property with permission. Violators face fines. due to this, one phone call is all it takes to have unwanted signs removed with an apology.

Regarding protection of personal property. When you live in a small town and know the cops and judges personally, nice things happen.

Defacing and destruction of property. Both give a property owner the right to defend and prevent it.

Tennessee isnt California.

Your statement about political signs. By definition, they are advertising. Are you being deliberately obtuse about that as usual?

Also, as usual, if you wish to take another nice vacation from the boards, keep up with the personal name calling. I'd say that by now, the mods have your posting priveleges on speed dial.

There is a little thing here called a sign ordinance. Politicians can only place signs on private property with permission. Violators face fines. due to this, one phone call is all it takes to have unwanted signs removed with an apology.

Is that why the electric company and the phone company have to spend millions of dollars annually removing these postings?

Regarding protection of personal property. When you live in a small town and know the cops and judges personally, nice things happen.

Then I am sure you can post up numerous cases where folks in tenn. have shot people for tagging and not been prosecuted..

Defacing and destruction of property. Both give a property owner the right to defend and prevent it.

You might want to chat with an atorney about what you can do to defend and prevent someone from tagging your property.

How is a political advertisement placed illegally on private or public property any different than a tagger or a "street artist" placing their stuff illegally on public or private property?

In one of towns that I live in there two city ordinances that affect self hung signs.  One is that it's illegal to post signs on utility poles and you can be fined for doing so.  The other is in regards to political signs.  It states that signs can only be placed on property where there is consent to do so and that all signs have to be removed by a specific time frame after the election.  That also carries a fine if the city has to remove it.

Most every city of any size, has these ordinances.
My point was that people who claim that they would shoot someone for tagging seem to miss the fact that these two acts are the same crime...yet no one shoots those who put up political posters and even though there are laws against it that carry fines can, you cite any time it has been enforced against politicians or political parties?
