Trans as a Gender on Profiles

Status: offline 		So, when I look at the other profiles of people who mark their gender as "trans", almost all of them are MtF crossdressers/transvestites. While that's cool, I'm not one. I was wondering if there are any FtMs or genderqueers assigned as female at birth here? I almost feel like I'm the only one.

Status: offline 		"Trans" is not a gender, short-version of saying transgender or transsexual, and neither of those are a gender. First one is used to described anyone who crosses or blurs the gender lines while the latter describe someone who has a condition. Any sites are bloody annoying when they put trans as a gender option. If they want to keep track of who is trans and other users would like to, then just add a checkmark or option somewhere for it, NOT making it part of the gender.

Status: offline 		The OP clearly knows what Trans means. Really what difference does it make how or where they make the identity option available. It fits just fine in the gender slot as far as I am concerned. In fact it seems the most logical place to make the distinction available.

Status: offline 		While many people may agree with you (I know it doesn't make much difference to me where it goes) I've seen many a flame war between those who are themselves transgendered, transexed and cross dressers. To many of those people some measure of accuracy in how people with gender differences define themselves does seem to be important.

Status: offline 		I read now and again that people feel deceived or mislead by TS/TG/CD members. Why it happens I do not know. I am sure everyone who is seriously looking for a relationship is open and honest about his or her situation. We do encounter people that are afraid to be upfront, but I am sure after a bad experience or two they approach things more honestly. Then there are the wankers that just want to play around. We encounter that in R/L meetings and it is just so much easier to deceive online. So when people see the tag and it is their bag, they can feel free to contact them.

Transgender is more of a gender than "male" and "female" and is an umbrella term for a variety of different genders. I personally appreciate "Trans" being an option since my gender is not "man" or "woman". Ideally, I'd like gender to be a fill-in-the-blank box, but I've yet to come across that.

Status: offline 		My Mistress is an MtF transexual and we've just recently gotten together in April..both as Domme/sub and girlfriends. I knew of her being transgendered from the beginning and did a ton of research..
I find a lot of people say that they are trans,transgendered,transexual..etc..and leave it at that..which is fine..they shouldn't be required to let us know of their genetic gender if they don't wish. On a transgender and their partner's websites for MTF's they will refer to girls that are born as girls as genetic girls or gg's..and something like that should be put in place..so they can identify as the gender they want but if someone doesn't want that..they'll know to search for genetic girls or boys.
To the OP: I don't see as many FTM's either..and it saddens me a bit just because I feel like perhaps even in their own culture they feel alone.

I've noticed a lot of people use "female" as a gender, which is sort of inaccurate. Technically it's a sex, not a gender. Now, I'm generally not into semantic scribbles, but this is why it bothers me. I feel like not maintain the gender/sex divide makes it difficult for me to talk about my body. I can't say that I'm female or otherwise people think that it is a declaration of gender. Even saying that I'm "female-bodied" which is something that I see more often suggests that my body is somehow gendered as feminine.

So while I think that there is nothing wrong with you choosing not to disclose or identify as trans, I still dislike that "female" is being used as a gender on these sites.

Female, Is a Gender.
Male, Is a Gender.

"Man" or "Woman" is NOT listed on your drivers licence!
That is a personal feeling or outward display.

Intersexed?

There can be a great deal of "grey" area involved with gender expression OR gender "Identity".

The Grey Matter in your brain is largely responsible for how you feel.
Expression is up to YOU!

To be given the chance to "display" who or what you are is Always wonderful.

Why does it "seem" that there are more MTF? Who knows.

Many "TG" people feel constrained by the "gender" related hardliners.
The truth is many people fall into the "normal" lines of gender and there are others that don't, how can these people find the way to express themselves well?

Hate to burst your bubble, but gender does indeed refer to sex, either literally or in the use of language...

How you personally identify your gender is up to you, but gender is sex.

I don't have a drivers lisence, but I do have a state ID. I was asked for my sex, not my gender.

The second definition I would agree is a definition of gender, but while it is related to sex it is still not sex.

But, if we will take your definition that gender is sex, what sex is a transperson who has never been and currently isn't using hormones or had surgery? Intersex activists are very sensitive to trans people appropriating the term intersex to describe their bodies since trans people not born intersex generally did not experience the medical abuse that intersex people have...since genderqueer is not a sex and it's offensive for them to describe themselves as intersex, what sex are people who consider themselves neither man or woman?

For reasons such as this, I think differentiating sex (as a biological construct) and gender (as a social role construct) is useful.

I doubt that. Increasingly I've seen large groups that ask for sex use "gender" instead of sex (almost exclusively inaccurately).
