Hell of a good question there.

It would depend on how long it takes us to accomplish this and just how much of a revolutionary change in technology is involved.

The longer it takes, the higher the price at the beginning of the changeover will be due to an increase in the overall scarcity of the resource combined with ever increasing demand.

A gradual change in our energy production from hydrocarbon based to fusion/solar/wind/hydro, etc wouldn't depress the market that quickly so production would ramp down along with demand and maintain stable prices.

Some sort of quantum leap in technology in say fusion energy would lead to a fast reduction in demand for hydrocarbon based energy sources and would possibly crash the price.

Either way, the US could be energy independent, massively reduce greenhouse emissions and other pollutants, have plenty of oil for our manufacturing future and we could watch those bastards that have had us by the short and curlies for the last half century starve. WIN WIN WIN WIN

Given the above, how much do you think the price of oil will be when we are energy self sufficient?
Righ now we produce maybe half of what we use and the oil companies charge us the same price as those whom we import from. If we become energy self suffucient it would seem to me that the oil/energy companies have no incentive to charge less than what "the traffic will bear". The advantage to being energy self sufficient seems to be that you get to choose who you want to fuck you....or did I miss something?

We liberated the people of Iraq, despite the insane caterwauling of deranged leftists who were claiming our soldiers were baby killers, terrorists, who were stealing Iraqs oil etc etc etc

And despite Obamas ignorant campaign pledges to get us out of Iraq upon being elected, Obama continued Bushs Iraq policy when he saw the same intel that Bush had access to

Before he called it a "dumb" war. Now its an extraordinary achievement
