ORIGINAL: tj444 Ummm.. Think like an immigrant? Even before this "Great Recession", i looked at immigrants and how they live and operate, the asians, the east indians, hispanics.. Are you really suggesting people resort to living as described in your post ? It is hardly sanitary for onething, thats if the amount of menial jobs you suggest are still around. I cant talk about the US but in the UK there is a shortage of first time buyers, caused by the housing price boom streaking ahead of average wages. Ok, i was exaggerting a bit.. It is sort of being done just due to the recession, lots of kids have moved back in with their parents, people have doubled up cuz its more affordable.. the thing is that once the recession is over, they will get their own places again when they could (possibly) stay living together to save more and invest it instead of giving it to some landlord.. People could look at what they do and do something similar.. form an investment group/club with 10 or 20 like minded people.. pool money for one investment, then pool money for a second, etc.. it could be investing in rental real estate or it could be investing in stocks or whatever else they might want to invest in.. and yeah, the UK is a different situation, you have more people moving there than you have houses for them to buy, so prices have increased dramatically..
