I know the Republicans hope they aren't.

That depends... if using the unemployment rate as the marker, then you'd have to wait till the next report to see how much of that decrease was due to seasonal help, or not.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Are Things Getting Better? (1/6/2012 6:59:01 PM)

I'd hate to mention Obama and Reagan together but this sentence is telling.

But the president's re-election chances may hinge more on the direction of the unemployment rate. It was 7.2 percent when Ronald Reagan beat Walter Mondale in 1984, but it had fallen from 10.8 percent two years before the election.

President Obama is no Walter.....[:D]

FR:

"Now that December's 8.5% rate is the lowest since Obama's first full month in office, the president and his advisers are feeling good about the trends: 3.2 million private-sector jobs created over 22 straight months of gains, including nearly 2 million last year alone"

i'm a registered republican and i certainly don't hope things aren't getting better. i would never wish hardship or suffering on anybody just to gain an electoral advantage. that is despicable.

So you are assuming Republicans put political advantage over the good of the country and the people, Hill? After all, it isn't like we know anybody who has been out of work seemingly forever, or had to take a crappy job below their skill level, or lost the house, or have had to walk away from a home and a community to start over someplace else...

Heck of a way to start a thread, Hill. Have fun with it.

It would be a fair statement to make about the leadership.

TheHeretic -> RE: Are Things Getting Better? (1/6/2012 10:48:09 PM)

Assholes abound, Muse, but I disagree on that being anything close to "fair." It's nothing but a casually cruel (demonizing?) slur against people you disagree with. Many of the most rabid Republicans I know are small business people, who are most certainly sick of a shitty economy.

It's not always about what you want to achieve, but what you believe is the best route to get there, and stay there. As you yourself pointed out when this recession started, it is the nature of things to bounce back.

Musicmystery -> RE: Are Things Getting Better? (1/6/2012 11:20:57 PM)

Read, Rich.

I specified the leadership. That statement stands.

They must be, Piers Morgan just interviewed Rob Lowe the actor and he was singing President Pantload's praises!
ROB LOWE no less!
Oh yeah, Hollywood loves Pantload and they'll be making some type of movie this year to tell all of us rubes what a great job he's doing.

Of course they don't. They are nothing but a bunch of homophobic, racist, granny haters. While dems on the other hand are sweet loving people who only want the best for everyone. [8|]

But we don't worry about unemployment in Detroit. Obama came here before he was elected and promised to make getting Detroit on it's feet a priority. So everyone must be ok now, right? He would not have lied because he's a dem.

I've said for years that BOTH parties put 'winning the next election" over the good of the country and that is one of the major problems we have faced for 3 decades now. If someone bothered to look closely, they would see that is one of my major posting themes.

If unemployment drops appreciably between now and November, Obama wins and the RNC knows it.

John Milton wrote in Paradise Lost "It is better to rule in Hell than to serve in Heaven" when he was describing the events leading to the split between God and Satan.

Our 2 parties have taken that to heart.

Lining pockets and making rules = GOOD

Citizens = meeeeeeeh FUKUM

And my list of the most rabid Republicans I know includes my Congressman, the majority whip, Tim. I've met the man, heard him speak, and listened in on several of his telephone town halls, where he takes questions, and goes extemporanous on a wide variety of topics for a couple hours. He got started in business with a sandwich shop. The other Congressman who covers the rest of this valley, chair of the House Armed Services Committee, also came out of a small business background, and while he is slowing down, he still has the right answers too.

Now perhaps you want to define "the good of the country," without a thought to what runaway inflation is going to do to your retirement plans, or maybe you are letting MSNBC tell you who the leadership is, but no, your assessment is not a fair one.

The president single handedly saved GM......without a single GOP vote.Sales are way up.Oh it didn`t happen instantly......soooo sorrrry.[8|]

"A Georgia businessman has an ultimatum for America: Fire President Obama, or he will not hire any more workers.

Bill Looman, owner of U.S. Cranes LLC, said he is fed up with the bad economy and D.C. politicians who do nothing to solve the problem. So until there is a change of leadership, his company trucks will bear the message: “New Company Policy: We Are Not Hiring Until Obama Is Gone.”

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/11/georgia-businessman-refuses-to-hire-until-obama-is-fired/

Tho there are numerous and obvious examples of the qualities you listed in your party, the op was about cons hoping the economy stays bad, for political advantage. And there are plenty of examples of all that.

Why even some of our most rapid republicans here have said they don`t have a chance, if the economy improves.

When you troll-rant about the negative things said about your party, you`re implying we just say those things without proving them as true. But that`s what we do every time.

We don`t just say the GOP is homophobic.....we show how it is and provide proof.links and the cons very own words.

One thing the cons are counting on tho,are people being sapps and dupes who`ll believe that no one would possibly want to stymie the economy on purpose.[8|]

Another tangent. And a poorly chosen one.

I literally haven't seen MSNBC ever. No television, and have no interest in trusting Bill Gates with the news.

Since inflation is hardly runaway around 3%, correct, not concerned. I *am* concerned about rapidly rising food, fuel, and health care costs, and have been and have posted about these for several years. Being rational, my retirement plans include reality, including my orchards/gardens, my fuel efficient house, working more and more from home, building revenue streams in place of labor income, investing with an eye to inflation hedges.

And again, the criticism of the leadership stands. They've accomplished nothing except waste a surplus trying to become a one party nation, and when faced with the loses that finally earned them, have done nothing since except obstruct wherever possible. In fact, this is their stated goal!

Since you're concerned about inflation, perhaps you'll tell your leaders that you are not willing to allow another 30 years of borrow and spend, good times and bad, that you are not willing to allow nothing to be done perpetually about spiraling health care costs, Obamacare or not, and that you're sick of hearing about obstruction and want to see specific things accomplished.

It's how Republicans *used* to operate, on balance, before the ascension of the right.

and the leadership (which i prefer to call professional politicians) are not "republicans" any more than the dnc are "democrats".  parties are mass movements, and the ones at the forefront in the news are simply those with the funds and ego to put themselves in the spotlight. the real republicans and democrats are the people in your office or at the lunch counter, or even in the welfare lines. its important to remember that.
