Perhaps, but the fact that he's changed his story about why and how he wasn't significantly involved in the nazi war effort five or six times now. That suggests that he was up to something that he feels ashamed about during the war, and also calls into question whether he's quite as infallible as the Pope is meant to be, doesn't it?

The Pope is supposed to be infallible?

Papal infallibility...... This dogma, however, does not state either that the pope cannot sin in his own personal life or that he is necessarily free of error, even when speaking in his official capacity, outside the specific contexts in which the dogma applies.

He wasn't any younger than most of White Rose. The German Catholic teenagers of that generation who had the courage of their convictions were publically beheaded.
One of the ones who didn't is now the fucking Pope.

I'd certainly have thought a lot more of him if he hadn't served in the wermacht to save his own skin then presented himself as a spiritual leader while lying through his teeth about that, yes. Sorry, but I think it's perfectly fair to hold the heads of religions to slightly higher moral standards than the rest of us. I'm funny like that.

I do not hold with all the Catholic Churches actions. I just truly have trouble holding a boy of his age accountable for something he did not do willingly. By the time he was 14, Hitler had a strong hold, either by fanaticism through the people, or by fear. It was war.

They were not given a choice.

Would you have the same problem had he been a satantist? A Wiccan? How many in this country did we prosecute for being part of the Communist party?

At 14, if I knew it was meetings or certain death, I would have gone to meetings as well.

I wouldn't have lain claim in later life to a position that makes me Christ's vicar on Earth and the alleged moral superior of every other human being on the fucking planet if I had, though.

If you can prove that he committed murder during that time, I would agree.

I'd question that any killing that takes place in a service uniform (at least of enemy combatants) is murder, but it's still rendering things that are God's unto Caesar.
However, if this argument is going to move into angels on pinheads arguments about things that can't be proven one way or the other, we might as well leave it here, as it won't achieve anything.
