But, personally I've never encountered a
man who thinks a woman looks good in
Ugg boots or birkies. I don't think either
is the footwear version of sweatpants but
sexy their not.


Dude, where I live, artsy gals wear cut off jean shorts with cowboy boots.
A fashion statement so bad it makes Uggs look damn near stylish

Ok I admit I have a ton of flip flops but they're dressy flip flops with jewels or metal pieces or made from high end materials. They're the type that wrap around the legs or look like "slave" sandals lol and some with tiny heels on them and all sorts. I own a couple of plain ones too but I only wear those when I'm going  someplace where I know they'll get ruined and I can just toss them.

But for the most part the ones I own can be worn with my nice summer dresses and look classy.

And there's no way on earth I'd ever own a pair of uggs...ugh. But I do own a pair of boots that are suede and fur that I wear when it's extremely cold out because they're just soooo warm. And if I'm going somewhere I'll take along another pair of shoes with me to change into.

I was not an UGGer until our manicure guy gave my mom a pair for xmas last year. OMG. Seriously warm and nice, to the point where you do not CARE about the fug. I admit that I also have a pair of crocs with fleece lining that I use in lieu of snow boots, and another pair for house shoes when it gets cold.

My uggs are sweater material on top, with buttons!

That's exactly it. Uggs are all function and no form. Same with sweatpants. If I'm in sweatpants it's because I'm freezing/sick/having a miserable period.

But, really, if you're so cold that you're wearing Uggs and a winter coat, you should not be out wearing shorts that are cut so short that the apple is showing.

I'm assuming Daisy Dukes are short shorts?? (I HONESTLY don't know.)
Don't know about Uggs either. They are something out of the ordinary?

Well I am guilty of at least some part of the above. But here is the thing.

I live in New York. I walk or take public transportation a lot. The winter is cold enough here that I think you can't fault anyone for wanting to wear Uggs in the winter (they are incredibly warm - the warmest boot I have EVER owned). I don't walk out of my building into a heated garage and a car to get where I'm going - I WALK -regardless of the weather. And I'll darn well walk in what keeps my little toes warm. I've had frostbite before and it ain't fun. So depending on where one lives in the country - Uggs to me are fine. Same goes for Hunter rain boots, or any other type of outerwear. If you live somewhere where you actually have to contend with walking in bad weather, I think people should wear what is warm/dry/comfortable - I just don't care if anyone thinks it's sexy or not!

I do wear flip flops on ONE particular occasion in the winter. Every month I treat myself to my pedicure. And there is no way after dropping money on a pedicure that I am going to walk home in my boots or shoes and destroy it. So I walk home several blocks in my flip flops. I don't care what people think. [:)]

Well, being in some respects a typical 'guy' ... With regard to seeing a gal wearing sandals and a winter-coat, or boots and cutoff-shorts, most of the time it's really context-dependent; it can be a hot look in chilly weather if she carries it off stylishly, or just plain slobby or worse if she doesn't. The same goes for sweats, t-shirts, etc, and for dressier, formal, or fetish-wear too, either she wears it well and it fits the situation, or not.

I'm no fashion plate GQ sort. Other than a tux for formal music gigs, wetgear for offshore, I'd pretty much wear fishing shirts, khaki shorts, and topsider sandals everywhere if I could get away with it. In practice, that works out to newest fishing shirts and earthtone slacks to the office, second-best fishing shirts and tan shorts everywhere else, and the ratty shirts and shorts for working on the boat. (Okay, ladygold has taken it on herself to 'vanish' some of the worst from the closet. I pretend to not notice.)

Maybe it's a thing with practical clothing? If a woman is dressed for what she's doing, I'm okay with that. And with classy hippy-chick garb in general too. But if she's made zero effort, or negative effort, or sometimes too much effort, then I'm often dis-impressed ...

Never watched the Dukes of Hazard, although I know it is or was a T.V. show. Therefore, I didn't know of Daisy Dukes or her little shorts. (Smiles)

And I am not into designer fashion trends so didn't know about Uggs. They look and sound like they would be warm though! (Smiles)

I don't care what others wear.  Are they good people?  Do I like their character?  Do they try to put positive ju ju out in the universe?    Those are the things that I look for and try to notice.

Sure there are clothes I don't particularly like, but then I don't wear those.  Problem solved.  [;)]

As for putting myself together...yes I put something of an effort into that.  I do my hair, make up and nails, and usually wear designer clothes.  Why? Because I feel good in them.  I am celebrating losing 95 pounds and this is my reward.  I've gone through a transformation of being obese, not put together very well, not being able to enjoy clothes I admired on other people, and feeling like a slug, overall.  Now I feel like a million bucks, and I can finally wear the kinds of clothes I used to admire from afar, so to speak, and I am enjoying it.  I'm dressing for myself, so anyone else's opinion of me based on that is cool with me.  Call me vain, smug, whatever, I'm ok with it, because I'm feeling great.  I have worked really hard to get my body healthy and to a place where I actually like it, so now I'm decorating it in a way that makes me feel good.

But that's just me.  I don't judge others on whether or not they're dressed like me, different than me, similar to me, or whatever.  One of the most amazing women I know gets her stuff from Ross, Kohl's and thrift shops.  Who cares?? Not me, I'm blessed to know her.

To me, they're just clothes.  It's who we are underneath that matters.

NV, you really are one of my favourite long time posters here and I've really enjoyed seeing your life transformation via your words.

I hope you enjoy every single hot second of feeling fabulous because you've worked so hard for it and you deserve it.
