Just FYI, the USAF was nowhere near intense as what you see on TV about the Army or Marines. After basic training and tech school it was like a job with uniforms and a dress code. We had to run and weigh in once per year.

Easier to get porky that way! Though I suspect it's the personality/behavior things that she means, and that kept me from it too. Though my middle ear disorder and lack of binocular vision would have kept me from it anyway.

Well, I became more responsible - no more calling in sick when one must report to sick hall.

The AF didn't do the "break you down to build you up" thing.

I just got sucked into this thread (and I will forego the obvious jokes...).

THIS made me laugh so hard I scared the cats!

as an aside: what's the difference between coriander and cilantro? as far as I can tell, coriander is simply dried/ground cilantro. Is that right?

I wish I had thought of that sooner...but being near granny age now...(Ill be 36 the 22nd of Feb) I figure some Kick Boxing classes and Ill call it good.

Well, maybe not good. Ill probably be calling 911 because I will have managed to round house myself in the face (I am a klutz like you would NOT believe)
But at least I will be in some kind of shape.

Oh lord...mine is all behavior...I'm not so great with authority figures...particularly LOUD ones.

My parents were abusive dicks, so screaming is one sure fire way to send me flying out the box and right at your face.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Master does not want sex (1/30/2012 7:46:28 AM)

Coriander is indeed dried cilantro!

Yes. They do taste very different so not great substitutes for each other but will do in a pinch. I add 1/4 t coriander when I make Jasmine rice and cilantro to lots of Latin or Asian dishes.

Curmudgeonly1 -> RE: Master does not want sex (1/30/2012 7:51:21 AM)

Coriander (Coriandrum sativum), also called cilantro, or dhania is an annual herb in the family Apiaceae. Coriander is native to southern Europe and North Africa to southwestern Asia. It is a soft, hairless plant growing to 50 centimetres (20 in) tall. The leaves are variable in shape, broadly lobed at the base of the plant, and slender and feathery higher on the flowering stems. The flowers are borne in small umbels, white or very pale pink, asymmetrical, with the petals pointing away from the center of the umbel longer (5–6 mm) than those pointing towards it (only 1–3 mm long). The fruit is a globular dry schizocarp 3–5 mm diameter. While in the English-speaking world (except for the U.S.) the leaves and seeds are known as coriander, in American culinary usage the leaves are generally referred to by the Spanish word cilantro.Wikipedia
Google is your friend :)

DesFIP -> RE: Master does not want sex (1/30/2012 7:52:22 AM)

I always thought coriander was the seed and cilantro the leaf.

mnottertail -> RE: Master does not want sex (1/30/2012 7:53:56 AM)

I always thought the shit tastes like soap.  I dont like the herb.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Master does not want sex (1/30/2012 7:54:18 AM)

Cilantro in its leaf form is DISGUSTING to everyone in my family--totally tastes like soap. Coriander, we like. It's genetic, evidently.

It's a genetic predisposition.  For real.  There's a cilantro=soap "gene" in a minority of the population.  Chances are your kids have it too.

mnottertail -> RE: Master does not want sex (1/30/2012 7:56:21 AM)

I would rather think of it as great minds think alike.

You can of course, quote me.

That is very interesting.  My Mother thinks cilantro is the most disgusting thing she's ever had, not sure if she thinks it tastes like soap or not though.  I, on the other hand, love cilantro.

edited because sometimes I can't spell for shit.

mnottertail -> RE: Master does not want sex (1/30/2012 7:59:25 AM)

Perhaps you are wearing different jeans.  But yeah, I'm solidly with mom in this little vignette, honey.

GreedyTop -> RE: Master does not want sex (1/30/2012 7:59:41 AM)

thanks for the coriander/cilantro info, folks! I use coriander (in small amounts) in some of my cooking, but LOVE cilantro, nice and fresh and flavorful!!

Starting to try dishes with ginger, now, too.. yummmmm

yes, mom and I abhor it, and you love it, you LOVE it, so it's tough to avoid in many mexican and southwest dishes.

yeah but I'm kinda weird sometimes about food.  I hate chocolate, which gets me an eyebrow raise from most.

Lockit -> RE: Master does not want sex (1/30/2012 8:03:00 AM)

From sex not to cookies and then hot and flavorful or not and then genetics... what a thread! [:D]
