So, you won't help your sister then if she wanted to get away? Your family wouldn't help eachother? Your granny couldn't leave earlier so as to be on the bus when granpa got home? Victims always have an excuse for why they can't leave.

Granny couldn't drive and even if she could, she had no car available to her.  I don't have any idea what bus she was trying to catch or if she had a particular destination.  Things, as I mentioned, were different back then.  People stood on that street and watched him beat her and did nothing.  That's how things were.

As far as my sister goes, she's been helped out before.  She chose to go back.  Now that she wants out again, she's got greater obstacles than she had back then.  Her son can't be moved from his school, it would cause him greater problems and possibly land him back in the state hospital (for a third time).  So, even if we had room for all of them here, that's a HUGE issue.

The point I'm trying to make is that it is not always as simple as people want to make it seem.

Erin,

I didn't mean to hijack the thread.  My apologies.  Any further post I make in this thread will be on topic.  Thank you for making such thought provoking posts.

You're right, things were different back then. A man could smack his wife if she insulted him too. Thats niether here nor there though. You brought her up as a point about not being able to leave the situation. I brought up the point that she could've left earlier.

So the boys mental health takes greater priority then everyones life?  I doubt that changing schools is going to be any worse then the house he is living in.
Saying that there isn't enough room and things will be too hard are excuses. It's taking the easy way out. Yes, it's going to be a tough road ahead. Get over it. There are always going to be tough roads ahead. But in the end which is worst. The abuse or the hard time? Seems your saying the hard time is the lesser of two evils.

And I'm saying that it's not always as hard as people make it out to be either.
