ORIGINAL: Musicmystery Why would a venture not making any profit get nailed with taxes? I'm not sure if we are looking at the same page, Muse. If the companies fail to make any money, or fail outright, the investors either gain nothing for their investment, or lose some to all of it. On top of that risk, should we disincentivize them further with high taxes on whatever they might get back, if a daring investment pays off? I make no claims to knowing the tax code well enough to say you can't find a write-off somewhere in it, but if you had your whole retirement in Solyndra, you're pretty well fucked. If you had 12% there, well at least the rate is low on the municipal bonds, but we ain't going to Bermuda in February.
