Nice story Owner,thanks for posting

It does leave me confused though,will this ship be joining the same Navy that Romney ,Gingrich et al keep saying is being allowed to slip into second tier status ?

It will take a very, very, long time before our Navy becomes "second tier." The Russians are the only comparable power, and they have one aircraft carrier.

Carriers aren't everything, but they are one of the best options to project our power to the world. Plus, we're building a new carrier that's larger and more expensive than any before it.

Personally, I think it's money better spent elsewhere, and a solution looking for a problem, but I'm not a senator.

It's the ignorant masses that just might suck up that fear mongering bullshit from the Republican side.
Kennedy once ran against the Republicans on a "missile gap" platform,he posited that under Eisenhower we were allowed to lag behind the Soviet Union in numbers of deliverable missiles.It was all bullshit of course,but he was running against Ike's vice president...and we all know how that election turned out.
Years later we would all find out that not only wasn't there a "gap" the Soviets couldn't hit the broad side of a continent with theirs anyway...lol.

Our navy like the other branches is going to shrink in numbers(and cost) but multiply in killing power and effectiveness.

And republicans with claim President Obama is "destroying" our military.They`re are doing it at cpac this weekend in fact......

Just some perspective - it is VERY RARE that a Navy Ship is named after someone still living. That happened to Admiral Arleigh Burke, but I'm not aware of others.

I think Mrs Giffords is a valiant individual but I am perplexed at what she has done that was heroic. The Navy has chosen to name their Little Crappy Ship (LCS) after a victim. Mrs. Giffords's acts are not exactly on par with, say, the acts of Roger Young.

Is this is happening because nobody could vote against a ship named after such a personally popular figure? Even if the new class it belongs to is questionable in terms of performance and cost, and the act breaks with established convention in naming ships?

Prediction....

All the things I joked cons will do,they will do.

They will question the naming and charge politics at best, smear the President Rep.Giffords at worst.

The patterns are set and it`s automatic.....almost as if we sent secret agents into the republican party to act as awful as possible to make the party look bad and the plan is working.
