I said anyone who drew a government check, which includes politicians.

Equal treatment under the law, no?

That's not what you were asked for, or what I was talking about.

Well, no. All sorts of people get all sorts of government checks, with all sorts of different strings attached. A government employee only gets his if he shows up, while a retiree's social security is there regardless. For servicemembers, it comes with a condition of your life being officially expendable. We separate poor and disabled people into all sorts of different categories already. There's the VA system, SSDI, whether or not there are dependents under 18, and each has it's own different set of hoops to jump through. There are people who get welfare, and will be expected to pay it all back.

Thats what I was talking about. Im sorry it isnt convenient enough for you.

Yes, all sorts of people get all sorts of checks from the government. The argument has been that welfare people get a check for doing nothing.

Disabled people get a check for being disabled. They may not have paid a dime into the system, and they get one for life. No different.

People on SS, may have worked, may be drawing off their own benefits or off death benefits.

Medicare... government check. How long before what they paid in is spent and now they are drawing off the "dole" the same as welfare?

We arent speaking of servicemen or women. They have more than earned what they get, and, frankly, deserve more.

However, being poor isnt any reason to be treated as a second class citizen. Welfare recipients have their own set of hoops just like all the other programs.

The truth is, the assumption was made that people on welfare have a greater potential for being on drugs than the general population. Something that has yet to be proven, something that was disproven in Florida.

Well that may be the assumption you are arguing against, Tazzy, but I have no idea who you are arguing it with. I haven't made it, yet I don't see anybody else in here, so please enlighten me as to how it relevant to the idea I'm supporting.

That is the assumption that these laws are passed upon. Surely you knew that.

And have I ever endorsed Florida's law, Tazzy? I'm proposing something done right. You refuse to address that, and instead, come at me with the positions and values of others.

Proposing drug testing for getting a welfare check... is that what you feel is "right"?

You can't even rephrase it without adding your own spin, Tazzy, any more than you will come out and say whether you think welfare should be no-strings-attached.

The scantest attention to what I'm saying, and a refusal to answer a repeated direct question about your own position on the matter.

I asked what training did welfare provide?  A question you avoided.  You keep insisting that people on welfare need to get used to drug testing for the job market.  I have shown how some are already drug tested through other training programs.  How does that equate to the government needing to drug test someone without cause?

Sorry, Tazzy, but you are just boring the shit out of me here. Say where you stand, or go away.

Should welfare be nothing but a poverty maintenance program, providing a period of bare subsistence level benefit, with no strings?

Well, hell, Rich, I hate to think of you sitting there all bored by me.

Why dont you explain how its a "maintenance program" for starters. I have shown it is not. You also claim no strings. Im curious about how you explain that claim as well. What "strings" do they have to prove?
