Free from the demons that haunted her.

At the Grammy's tonight, Jennifer Hudson is going to sing a song as a gentle tribute to her.

I'm beginning to wonder - has anyone done any statistics on fame and how it shortens your life?

Fame makes a shortened life visible.

Her life may have been shortened by drugs and Bobby Brown.

Dead in a hotel famed for it's pre-Grammy party.

She sang one of the best renditions of the national anthem I've ever heard, before the Super Bowl, in '91 I think. Bills-Giants. I was in a little redneck bar, and it fell completely silent within in the first few bars. 25 seconds in, the entire bar was out of their chairs, hats doffed, hands over hearts, there was not a dry eye in the house at the end.

I feel for her family, particularly her daughter. I hope they find some comfort somewhere in the days to come.

I was not a fan of her music but it is so sad to see anyone pass away especially someone so young. Very sad.

WHat is even sadder to me is all the people with similar demons that die every fucking day, who also have families... and those deaths go unremarked (yanno, because they weren't famous and all over the celebrenews with the trainwrecks their lives had become).

I agree 100% Greedy. Had she not been famous, with access to the fancy doctors and such, she would have been dead in a gutter years ago, and no one would have cared, except her own family.

In sympathy to her family and loved ones at this terrible time.

While not a fan of her music (or indeed that genre) I acknowledge the loss in terms of both culture and music and also acknowledge that some of her work was an influence and source of inspiration to other singers.

Not so GT. Very very few deaths go unremarked; most are unremarked by the "public" who knew not of them is all.

I never knew the lady but I'm saddened by the loss of someone who could so easily and so consistently move me to tears with "I Will Always Love You".

I'll go YouTube it now and the tears will flow again, not for her death but for the beauty of the song she gave us.

*hugs tro Stella and SD*

I honestly didn't think she was all that. As Stella can probably agree with, there are countless actors/(singers) who can beat the pants off of current actors/singers. They generally just don't have the connections.

Actually, Dolly Parton gave it to us, and, IMHO, sang it better.

I remember MJ's death, It was a busy night out with friends on Leidse square in Amsterdam. Suddenly a lot of mobile phones went of and everybody got text messages. You could feel the emotion runnin through the crowd. Some started crying, some laughed, some stared in disbelief. It was a strange but insightfull thing how a famous death inlfuences a crowd so different and almost unreal.
I felt a real loss when Amy died, I didnt feel that at all, right now.
I got the same sentiment that I had with MJ, like it's the end of an era.
Still personal loss hurts us all the same way. I guess its most hard on her kid.
And to say my bit about her druguse. I think Bobby was her worst bad habbit.
RIP

As I said in my earlier posts I was never a big fan of her music in general but I'd certainly like to see where the line is forming of all of those equally talented yet connectionless folks who could "beat the pants off her" on this.

Own a few companies, all drug free (we test every employee....yeah I know...some think that's a waste of $$...but I've learned a TON about what to look for)...you have to ask yourself 2 questions.....

Ain't it sad we lost someone with this unbelievable God given talent and 2......

Look at her upper lip and then following, barely seconds later....through makeup....the sweat growing....moving right up her face on a cold evening.....

She was still hooked.

Very sad.

The Superbowl performance of the anthem was 20 years ago, Lookie. Maybe she was sweating under the lights? She might well have been using drugs, marijuana at the very least, from the earliest parts of her career, and before, but that wasn't the performance of someone who let it affect her work. Later on, it certainly did.
