And where are my civil rights being upheld when these people have numerous amount of babies and I have to pay their welfare to keep them pregnant, feeding and house their asses?

So long as I'm the one making them pregnant, I'm actually okay with that.

Jana,

It's a non starter...it doesn't matter.

Except for the largest companies (which comprise a very small part of the economy), your health care is determined solely by your health provider.

NOW....the bigger question is...will the nations health providers use this as a precursor to limiting coverage.

(The answer, of course is....yes).

Actually, the health insurance companies would rather pay for birth control. It's a lot cheaper than the doctor and hospital bills of a pregnancy. That is why even the republican party's health care covered abortions until just a little while ago (when they noticed), abortions save the insurance companies a lot of cash.

Ehhhhhhh....that's like saying they'd rather pay for chiropractic instead of spine surgery or eye drops that cost "pennies" that have proven to save costly eye diseases and surgery....but I hate to tell you bud....it just ain't a fact.

Lol They are changing the law now. They have a limit to five years total in some states because the government recognize they are abusing the system.
It is not a good feeling having to pay taxes so lazy people can eat.

Sure I will address it,we have the means so why shouldn't folk have the "right to fuck without consequences".....now I guess the question becomes to you care to discuss it,or will you just claim that there is no possibility of conversation with someone on the left.....due of course to the lefts failures. Can't forget that part

Men already have the right to fuck without consequences. They arent the ones getting pregnant.

It's kind of interesting that in another thread today I mentioned that the Religious Right is using the Republican party like a rented mule to force their agenda down the throats of all the American people.

My only question is: "What will they do when they have destroyed the GOP as a political force?"

The GOP of today is nothing like the GOP I grew up with.

This,I was once, whether or not anyone here wants to believe me,a registered Republican.I could not vote in the 2008 Democratic primary having just that election switched party affiliation. Now as I said you are all free not to believe me,I just don't care...but it is the gods honest truth,so how many other dedicated Democrats are refugees from a Republican party that they no longer recognize ?

I tend to be fiscally conservative. Yes, I do support the idea of a safety net despite that, because I also believe that it is our job as a society (and government is supposed to be a reflection of that society) to take care of those who are unable to care for themselves--the elderly, the disabled, the chronically poor. The problem with the Republican party is that they have long ago ceased to be fiscally conservative. Reagan blew up the deficit, as did both both Bushes. And what was so smart about giving tax cuts during a time of war?? Unfortunately, under Obama we are still in the tax breaks during war mentality--which does nothing good for the country.

I would say if one is concerned about consequences, anyone restricting women from contraception and doesn't personally wear a comdom or get snipped is a hypocrite.

Yes they have lost their minds and we need to get rid of a whole bunch of people in November.
I could never understand why my govt. wanted to get involved in the abortion/birth control issue!
That's not what we're paying them to do.
Can they just *Run the fucking country?* Is that so fucking hard for those cretins to understand?

The solution is obvious - anyone who earns less than $150 000 pa, or fails to vote Republican or doesn't spend an hour a day studying the Bible must be sterilized.

Ooops I forgot: or isn't white, married and bonks only their spouse in an approved way needs sterilizing too or owns enough guns to kill every living thing between here and Timbucktu - they all need sterilizing.

Need I go on? Y'all know what I mean - anyone who isn't like me must be sterilized.

Well they are trying to get on the bandwagon of the "freedom of religion" party. What they fail to understand is that insurance coverage for contraception has nothing to do with freedom of religion. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Catholicism believes in the concept of "free will" as well as being anti-contraception. In other words, they believe that each individual must still choose - choose God, choose Jesus, choose not to use birth control, etc. So the intellectual issue I have with the Republican approach on this, is that they are not respecting free will. Just because my insurance company covers birth control does not mean I have to use it. There IS freedom of religion. Every individual is still free to choose or not choose to USE birth control as they see fit. So the fundamental issue then is why should birth control not be covered for all of those individuals whose religion does not prohibit birth control or those Catholics, who through the expression of their "free will" choose to use birth control. If anything, it is the Republican stance on this that is anti-religion. It smacks of "my God's rules are the only ones that apply" - isn't that exactly what freedom of religion was supposed to protect us from???

I think this is an interesting tact for the Republicans to take given that over 70% of Catholics in the U.S. support allowing Catholics to use birth control. But they are trying to pick up the votes of the religious right in general by being perceived as the party that supports "freedom of religion". That's because most right-wingers do not understand what freedom of religion actually means.

It already has been addressed. Reproductive rights fall under the penumbra of the right to privacy. And, in planned parenthood v. Bartell, a federal court determined that not offering contraception when other prescriptions are covered is sex discrimination.
I have some kind of wacky beliefs myself. I am an environmentalist at heart, that is my religion. In keeping with my religion, I believe people should limit their family size. As an employer, does that mean I get to limit insurance coverage to only up to two children per employee famiy? I should be able to do that under the logic being used here. No right to fuck without consequences, after all.

I said it in a joking manner, but the point is serious.

Good link, thanks.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/12/opinion/sunday/kristof-beyond-pelvic-politics.html?_r=3

...Look, there’s a genuine conflict here. Many religious believers were sincerely offended that Catholic institutions would have to provide coverage for health interventions that the church hierarchy opposed. That counts in my book: it’s best to avoid forcing people to do things that breach their ethical standards.

Then again, it’s not clear how many people actually are offended. A national survey found that 98 percent of sexually active Catholic women use birth control at some point in their lives. Moreover, a survey by the Public Religion Research Institute reported that even among Catholics, 52 percent back the Obama policy: they believe that religiously affiliated universities and hospitals should be obliged to include birth control coverage in insurance plans.

So, does America’s national health policy really need to make a far-reaching exception for Catholic institutions when a majority of Catholics oppose that exception?

I wondered what other religiously affiliated organizations do in this situation. Christian Science traditionally opposed medical care. Does The Christian Science Monitor deny health insurance to employees?

“We offer a standard health insurance package,” John Yemma, the editor, told me.

That makes sense. After all, do we really want to make accommodations across the range of faith? What if organizations affiliated with Jehovah’s Witnesses insisted on health insurance that did not cover blood transfusions? What if ultraconservative Muslim or Jewish organizations objected to health care except at sex-segregated clinics?

The basic principle of American life is that we try to respect religious beliefs, and accommodate them where we can. But we ban polygamy, for example, even for the pious. Your freedom to believe does not always give you a freedom to act.

In this case, we should make a good-faith effort to avoid offending Catholic bishops who passionately oppose birth control. I’m glad that Obama sought a compromise. But let’s remember that there are also other interests at stake. If we have to choose between bishops’ sensibilities and women’s health, our national priority must be the female half of our population.

Acording to the 54 Kinsey study on the Female Orgasm, if you can snag a lapsed Catholic girl, you got yourself a real fine whore there.

So, alls well that ends well.
