ORIGINAL: Iamsemisweet It shouldn't matter. The religious right claims every human life is sacred and we should have as many children as god sends us. I don't feel that way. I believe public assistance should be limited to no more than two children. Bet she wouldn't have had 15 kids by age 37 if it were. So, since this is my fervent belief, why should I pay for social services for morons with big families? How do you separate your tax dollars from the others? As far as having children while on TANF... A child born after July 1, 1998, who was conceived while the parent received TANF benefits, will not be eligible, unless the child is conceived as a result of rape or incest. http://www.nd.gov/dhs/info/pubs/docs/dn-248-tanf.pdf And there is a 60 month limit on these benefits. I do get your point though. My feeling is that is she is that fertile, she should have looked into sterilization, which Medicaid would have paid for... Sterilization Services Sterilization procedures performed in the inpatient and outpatient hospital setting are for the primary purpose of rendering a recipient incapable of reproducing and are voluntary procedures reimbursable by Medicaid. The following criteria must be met: • The recipient must be at least 21 years old at the time of signing the consent form. • The recipient must be mentally competent and not institutionalized in a correctional, penal, or rehabilitation facility or a facility for mental diseases. • A Florida Medicaid Sterilization Consent Form must be correctly completed at least 30 days prior to sterilization. This form is valid for 180 days from the date of recipient’s signature. Consent for sterilization cannot be obtained during: Ö Labor, childbirth, or an abortion. Ö A period of time when the recipient is under the influence of alcohol or other agents affecting awareness. • When premature delivery is marked on the consent form, the expected date of delivery must be entered. There must be 30 days between the expected date of delivery and the date the consent form is signed. If premature delivery or emergency abdominal surgery occurs between 72 hours and 30 days following the consent signature, an exception is allowed. Note: See Chapter 2 of the Florida Medicaid Provider Reimbursement Handbook, UB-92, for a sample of the Sterilization Consent Form and the instructions on how to complete it. http://portal.flmmis.com/FLPublic/Portals/0/StaticContent/Public/HANDBOOKS/CL_05_050601_Hospital_Services_ver1.0.pdf The option was hers.
