You've probably already guessed that the National Rifle Association is responsible for the Florida "stand your ground" law that Travyon Martin's killer is hiding behind to avoid prosecution. But the NRA's secret weapon in promoting "stand your ground" is the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a right-wing coalition of state legislators and lobbyists that turned the Florida law into a "model bill" adopted in 24 states.

Here's the worst part: Prison Fellowship, one of the nation's most prominent Christian organizations working on criminal-justice issues, is a key member of the ALEC task force that's pushing "stand your ground" and other inhumane legislation. Prison Fellowship is supposed to be transforming the lives of people affected by the criminal justice system, not lending their support to an extremist organization that promotes gun violence.

Sign our petition and tell Prison Fellowship to immediately withdraw from ALEC and disavow "stand your ground" laws.

The American Legislative Exchange Council is pushing an extremist agenda that victimizes the least of these. Prison Fellowship must immediately end its membership in ALEC and disavow support for "stand your ground" and other inhumane ALEC-backed legislation.

The law in question states (bold added) ...

Use of force in defense of person— A person is justified in using force, except deadly force, against another when and to the extent that the person reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to defend himself or herself or another against the other’s imminent use of unlawful force. However, a person is justified in the use of deadly force and does not have a duty to retreat if:

(1) He or she reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony; or
(2) Under those circumstances permitted pursuant to s. 776.013.

What exactly is objectionable about that?

I don't find their position on gun shows and semi-automatics responsible.

The NRA is,and has been for some time,nothing more that a lobbyist group for the Gun manufacturers....they stopped being responsible a long,long time ago.
All they care about is promoting legislation that leads to a bigger bottom line for said manufacturers.....the body count be dammed.

FYI, I was a Munitions Systems Specialist in the USAF for four years and in addition to my MOS, trained on M-16 and shotgun. Went shooting last year and did quite well with a variety of handguns.

I object to irresponsible people and the laws and organizations that enable them.

On top of that, making it hard for those running for the Republicans that are more moderate in viewpoints but feel firearms should not become so commonplace in the market that they are purchased just like one buys sneakers or a book from Amazon.com. The NRA was a decent organization decades ago, but has since morphed into something completely different. The only ones still fooled by their propaganda bull droppings are the same morons stockpiling guns and ammo (more so now that we have Mr. Obama in office).

If the NRA was as 'true' to individual firearm ownership, why do they get involved only in firearm cases that would help the gun industry's bottomline? That specifically those cases that either allow firearms to be purchased or keep firearms from being ban off the market. The NRA hasnt given a damn about Americans with firearms, only promoted through other vendors the sense of fear of say...Mr. Obama banning the 2nd Amendment (what did that do to the gun industry's sales, boys and girls?). Fear is just one tool in the NRA's arsenal to both keep conservatives 'in line and obedient' and to project anyone that doesnt have a firearm as being non-American.

Not because of my stance on firearms, but because there are so many other investment opportunities that offer better ROI in a shorter amount of time. If the person insists, that's their business. People buy up shares of companies they like. Mostly its to say they have a piece of said company. 'Anti-gunners' as you call them are much more likely to be educated on investing than the 'pro-gunners'. The time they would have spent 'polishing, firing and buying' firearms was spent on learning to invest and examining new opporunities to invest in their future.

disclaimer: I'm not a CPA or CFP. I'm just someone that has a good knack for investing. People talk with their brokers and than come and ask me for advise on money matters. All I am giving them, is an opinion on a question that doesnt have a realistically solid answer. Asking someone "How do I invest and make big profits?" is like asking "What is the cure for cancer...the complete answer".

Guess you have not looked at Sturm Ruger's chart. Here, let me help you.

TOTALLY unsubstantiated. Matter of fact I'd challenge that based solely that pro-gunners are more aware of the facts (a/k/a more educated; see John Lott for details). Or just ask Kirata
