With my son, the doctor told me that I was so early in the pregnancy that the test might be a false-positive and wanted to test me again a month later. With my daughter, I knew the moment I missed one menstrual cycle, which was weird because I had to have my birth control pills adjusted every few months because I kept missing my period. Unless a grown woman doesn't know how her body works or she's in denial, there is no way she couldn't know that she's pregnant, even in the earliest stages.

Oh some of those fundie women still think the baby grows in their stomachs - the very first political struggle over pornography was to prevent the dissemination of a popular neo-Aristotillian medical text of the time (second in popularity only to the Bible) they're not real big on scientific explanations for things, which is why arguments based on science and medicine go right over their heads. They're trying to save the soul that God placed in the little blastocyst so that they won't go to hell.

They're not living in the 21st century here, they're strung out between the 13th and 19th centuries for the most part. "Knowing thyself" in the sense you're talking about would be nasty, I doubt many of these women have ever even seen their own sex organs in a mirror, remember, it doesn't belong to them anyway, it belongs to the lord.

The first time I was pregnant, I didn't know until I was about 3.5 months. I have PCOS and at that point had an average of 2-3 periods per year. The signs were so slight that even the doctor did the test twice to make sure.

Birth control pills prevent implantation of the embryo in the Uterus. In other words, conception has occurred, the Birth Control prevents the embryo from getting food. They do prevent ovulation, they may thicken the mucus plug in the uterus preventing sperm from reaching the womb, and they also can prevent implantation. Or do you think the morning after pill taken 72 hours after sex finds a bunch of sperm swimming in circles and hands them a map that says "to the egg," but actually points them back to the vaginal opening? By that time, the egg is fertilized, but birth control pills (morning after pill, triple dose of regular pills) can trick the woman's body into Menses, which will prevent implantation and expel the fertilized egg. Is that "Murder," or not? Likewise, an IUD may prevent sperm from reaching the egg, or it may prevent implantation. Is getting an IUD premeditated murder?
