I don't quite get how a woman can not at least suspect that she is pregnant. I knew right away. With my son, the doctor told me that I was so early in the pregnancy that the test might be a false-positive and wanted to test me again a month later. With my daughter, I knew the moment I missed one menstrual cycle, which was weird because I had to have my birth control pills adjusted every few months because I kept missing my period. Unless a grown woman doesn't know how her body works or she's in denial, there is no way she couldn't know that she's pregnant, even in the earliest stages.

They're trying to save the soul that God placed in the little blastocyst so that they won't go to hell.

"Knowing thyself" in the sense you're talking about would be nasty, I doubt many of these women have ever even seen their own sex organs in a mirror, remember, it doesn't belong to them anyway, it belongs to the lord.

Its actually 7 months is better than 8... and its because of the lung function. It really comes down to the surfactant levels. Its higher at 7 months, then slows down during 8 month as the baby goes into grow mode.

By 24 weeks the lung cells begin to produce a substance called surfactant,2 a substance absolutely necessary for successful gas exchange.

The higher that level, the better the chances for immature lungs to survive.

If the egg and sperm are without question alive themselves, then how does "Life begin at conception?"

Do the sperm and egg die along the way, and zombie sperm and zombie eggs fuse to create the blastocyst?

And since there's no scientific basis for your belief founded on this extremist religious dogma, why don't you Join the rest of us in the 21st Century, where we know that life is a continuum.

Then maybe you can rephrase your position in terms which aren't insane.

I'm not sure that moves the argument on, though, Fargle. Surely the pro-lifers are just going to maintain that a Doctor/Patient relationship exists not just between medic and pregnant mother, but medic and foetus - or unborn baby - too?


Yeah, they can try, but we'll just shut them down with reality. Unborn babies are the property of their mother, and not them, or the State. Until that baby is born, there's no logical way for it to legally exist, unless you buy into the crazy religious extremism that it's an independent legal person, despite not being able to maintain homeostasis on it's own ( among other things, but that's the biggie... )

Speculation? I suppose being in that field for over a decade, and working in the trenches with those Dr's would lead me to only be able to speculate... not.

If life begins at conception, then birth control pills are murder, there's no debate.
Guess that is why the pro-life folks are so up in arms against birth control???
Personally, I think the Pill is a good thing, and that forcing a woman to have a child she doesn't want is a recipe for a crappy life for the woman and the child. Not a surprise that those children grow up to be criminals...

The first time I was pregnant, I didn't know until I was about 3.5 months. I have PCOS and at that point had an average of 2-3 periods per year. The signs were so slight that even the doctor did the test twice to make sure.

Um, no...
Birth control pills prevent implantation of the embryo in the Uterus. In other words, conception has occurred, the Birth Control prevents the embryo from getting food. It starves to death and is flushed out with the next menses. Next time you want to correct someone on how Birth Control works, ask a woman first...
ETA: don't worry, Mitt Romney made the same mistake.

Re-read my material, and we are both half-right. They do prevent ovulation, they may thicken the mucus plug in the uterus preventing sperm from reaching the womb, and they also can prevent implantation. Or do you think the morning after pill taken 72 hours after sex finds a bunch of sperm swimming in circles and hands them a map that says "to the egg," but actually points them back to the vaginal opening?
By that time, the egg is fertilized, but birth control pills (morning after pill, triple dose of regular pills) can trick the woman's body into Menses, which will prevent implantation and expel the fertilized egg. Is that "Murder," or not?
Likewise, an IUD may prevent sperm from reaching the egg, or it may prevent implantation. Is getting an IUD premeditated murder?
