My late dom wasn't a fan of tap tap tap. He was more of the wack wack wack school- and we did a lot of that - to the point i ended up with leather butt. After the first year of living together, i didn't bruise anymore. I'm thinking that now i would find the taptaptap annoying.

As for cane strokes - he was a fan of striking from the wrist - he felt he could hurt me just as much doing that as swinging from the shoulder, and had greater control.

I love using the cane and I often use tapping, especially on the inside of the legs. I never use tapping to warm up though, I don't do warm ups.
I prefer rattan canes to dragons because they are swishy and make that delightful noise.

I used to think that canes were only the typical walking sticks, which is why I was rather afraid of them. Someone wielding a walking stick could easily brake bones with it. Actually, the thinner canes can be quite nice, though stingy.

I thought it might be used to desensitize the area before a more forceful blow. Kinda like giving a horse an injection in the butt. You punch him a few times before sticking the needle in.

Hitting just below or above or to the right or left of the previous hit will actually be more painful than hitting the same spot.

Hitting will desensitize an area. But tapping and hitting are not the same. I seriously doubt tapping causes any desensirization unless the caner is very heavy handed. And in my personal experience with caning I can tell you tapping did not desensitize the area LOL

Tears and welts can be a good thing sometimes :)

Master's taps are hardly ever gentle. He seems he knows how to strike it in a way that even the taps hurt.
Once in a great while he'll be nice to me and give me a warmup with taps that are gentle because he knows I prefer a warmup to get in a good headspace but then I know what's coming right after those taps and so everytime he taps I cringe wondering when the next one will be a tap or a whack. [&:]
Most times it's more like blood curdling screams whacking.

IJMHO and all, but I've been watching Mood Pics for years and it's my bet that they are real. I've been around the block a time or two when it comes to canes and laying out really heavy impact play and the way these gals react, the way they involuntarily spasm, the way the welts are raised and bruised, the reflexive muscle response to taking a strike-yeah, all of that screams real to me...which is why I've been watching mood pics for years now :-)
