Obama coming out in favor of gay marriage, now that's a vote getter for sure.

...Mr. Obama was against same-sex marriage as a candidate in 2008 but supported civil unions. In the fall of 2010, he said his views on gay marriage were "evolving," a stance widely interpreted as moving toward an endorsement. Asked numerous times afterward whether his position had changed, the president deflected the question and pointed to his record on other gay-rights issues.

On Wednesday, he explained, "I had hesitated on gay marriage, in part because I thought civil unions would be sufficient… And I was sensitive to the fact that for a lot of people the word 'marriage' was something that invokes very powerful traditions, religious beliefs and so forth."

He said his position was influenced by gay members of the military and his staff who are raising children together in monogamous relationships.

Mr. Obama informed a handful of top aides earlier this year he had decided to publicly support gay marriage before the Democratic National Convention in September, senior administration officials said. Mr. Biden's public support, in a TV interview Sunday, and the 72 hours of fallout that came afterward sped up the president's timetable, these officials said.

I know this may have been a joke, but I think you're right. Support for gay marriage probably will cost Obama some votes.

Earlier today, I found myself thinking of how LBJ said "We've lost the South for a generation" when he signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. I hope Obama's fallout won't be quite that dire, but I'm sure it will come.

No,no,no servant this is an Obama thread....not a Romney thread( of course in Romney's case he was for it, before he realized he had to be against it to get the nomination ).

Calling Obama a panderer I'll except that bit damn what's that make Romney who has been on both sides of damn ear every issue. Could it be that like the rest of the country Obama has slowly changed his belief? The thing is the what's the argument against it? It's an equal protection issue. Gays like starights should have the right to civil marriage licenses.. No one is going to or can make a church marry them

For me the arguments against it is that it is not natural. Pardon me for being a conservative. Especially when it comes to raising children. That might well be against the UN Declaration of Children's Rights. Children have the right to know both biological parents.

I have nothing against gays/lesbians/bisexuals in person. I am not a homofobic person. What they do in their bedrooms is their business. But I will never consider a homosexual relation equal to a heterosexual relation. It is not equal because it can never lead to a normal pregnancy or procreation.

What about heterosexual couples who are infertile and use IVF or adopt? Are they less equal to breeders?

What about heterosexual couples who chose not to reproduce?

Not natural in what way?  In that it is not found in nature? Not found in our nature?

I mean how exactly 'not natural'?

Actually, Obama was for gay marriage before he was ever against it, now he is for it again. It's all political.

You did not read my statement. One type, the homosexual type will never lead to procreation. The other type, the heterosexual type does sometimes not lead to procreation. When children are adopted according to the UN declaration of Children's Rights, the children should be able to know both biological parents.

You know, a few decades ago, my grandfather died, in his 70s.

A year or so later, my grandmother married her high school sweetheart (who had recently divorced). They lived together for 10 years in the town they both grew up in.

And gee. All this time I had no idea that my grandmother was in an unnatural relationship, that could not possibly be equal to a real marriage, and was promoting the homosexual agenda.

Such a decision can change and still lead to procreation whereas homosexuality never leads to procreation. You are trying to find the exception on the rule where the rule is pretty clear.

This brought to mind a story I read years ago, perhaps in Reader's Digest.

Two sixty-somethings were getting married, and the priest was a little too focused on his script. "Will you," he asked, "accept children lovingly from God and bring them up according to the law of Christ and his Church?"

The bride smiled at the groom and said, "I will if you will."

The whole congregation cracked up.

Both my grandparents had a heterosexual relation till they died. That is my standard for a marriage which I wll not impose undemocratically on you. Same thing should be applied vice versa.

Try biologic rule. A homosexual relation will never lead to procreation. Heterosexual relations can lead to procreation. Therefore homosexual- and heterosexual relations are not equal, not in a million years.
