ORIGINAL: MileHighM Still goes back to you should read a label and avoid putting crap into your body...even before there was concerns over HFCS, the only things that really contained it were considered junk and crap by most anways (Soda, pancake syrup, et). All things that shouldn't be widely consumed regardless of what sweetener is in it. Including 0calorie sweeteners Right. It isn't like they put the stuff into bread or anything. If you don't eat sweets or junkfood, you'll never encounter the stuff, will you?[/sarcasm] Irrespective of whether you use HFCS or refined cane sugar, at the end of the day you have to balance energy. Chemistry and physics teach us that if you eat more that you burn you will gain weight, and if you eat less you will lose weight. You can get fat eating nothing but organic fresh food, and you can lose weight eating junk. Whether or not you are properly nurished is another topic all together. While the prevelance of sugars (in general) in prepared foodstuffs makes it difficult manage your calorie intake, they, at least, tell you how bad it is on the side of the package. You have read the side of the package to know whats in it as well as how it will effect your overall health. We can claim that there needs to be strict regulations on how much sugar or how much salt, etc is in certain foods. But, those would be blanket regulations that, while helping some, could harm others. For example, if you are a highly active person, being on a 5000 Calorie a day diet isn't necessarily a bad thing, it could be a necessary thing. Cheap, fatty, and sugary foods could be a useful tool in an otherwise healthy diet. Being able to get 2000 cheap and quick calories can make it easier to reach your caloric balance for the day. As an avid backpacker, I know some who will soak their dehydro in Olive oil before leaving on a big trek. For most, this would mean massive weight gain, for them, this prevents massive weight loss. The point is, regardless, the only person who can be best qualified to make decisions about their own diet is themselves. And, you have to want to inform yourself about basic nutrition. You can ban HFCS and you won't see a miraculous drop in weight, people have bad eating habits period that need broken.
