By hissy fit I mean leftists pitching their usual fits because (gasp) capitalists arent totally constrained in chains of iron, and are (horrors) free to build us products and bring us services using companies they control themselves...

Without overt government ownership... or even onerous bureaucratic regulations hobbling their every step

So which leftists have said anything of the sort in this thread, then?
You won't have any trouble finding a quotation that demonstrates your point, unless it's another example of ludicrously overstated neocon hyperbole and whining.

The market is taking care of the issue

What "hissy fit?"

You claimed Verizon was leading the market. I pointed out the market was beating up Verizon. Over here in Far Leftist Land we call that reality. We base that reality on something we call "data."

It's going to hurt them too. I was wondering about upgrading to a smart phone, for example, but the surprise data charges convinced me to wait (I can't see paying $100/month for phone service, then more when I actually use that service). I can understand their dilemma (if not their solution); many companies grow too quickly into new areas and become victims of their own success (remember People's Express?). Looks like that's happened here. But that they are laying off so many workers indicates they don't have a long term solution. When you cut people, all you do is pay for the competition's training, as that's where they go to work. It is, however, a typical short term cost-cutting measure to salvage a quarter or two. But you can't cut your way to prosperity, and apparently, Verizon has no plan to implement. Better believe their competition is seeing that and working to fill the void before Verizon recovers and figures out something.

In Far Leftist Land, we call that "business."

Knee-jerk reactions to rush in and defend any labor cuts, private or public, without bothering to look at the facts of the matter, we call "today's conservatives."

Peter Drucker said it best, decades ago--Labor is a resource, not a cost.

If Verizon is reducing input resources, they are reducing production, as they're unable to attain more market share (increased productivity would dictate increasing production with the same labor otherwise).

LOL. open your eyes and you shall see...

http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=4137853

If youre too scared to get a smart phone its probably best that you stay away from them. If your dish washing job doesnt pay the bills odds are you dont need a smart phone anyway

Ive had my smart phone for some time and I am loving it

Powered by Verizon btw, and not a hitch in the service ever

Even from the most remote high mountain locations I most always have service (and the Internet) right at my fingertips and I find the cost very reasonable

If they stumble there will be someone else to pick up the pieces and move forward, and I hope to Dog it isnt some government entity such as USA Mobile partnered with China Mobile etc

No, that was IRONY - Verizon To Lay Off 1,700 Workers After Paying CEO $22 Million Last Year

Sanity -> RE: Verizon To Lay Off 1,700 Workers After Paying CEO $22 Million Last Year (6/10/2012 3:01:06 PM)

Irony is leftists using the Internet to bemoan private Internet providers... such as Verizon

You have a little slice of heaven in North Korea you know... instead of trying to change everyone else to your way of thinking why not just move to where your way of thinking is king

kalikshama -> RE: Verizon To Lay Off 1,700 Workers After Paying CEO $22 Million Last Year (6/10/2012 3:05:33 PM)

Actually, from what Aswad and wikipedia say, my little slice of heaven would be Norway.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norway#Economy

The egalitarian values of the Norwegian society ensure that the wage difference between the lowest paid worker and the CEO of most companies is much smaller than in comparable western economies.

Obama left his heart in Kenya you know... instead of trying to fundamentally transform America into his own personal playground why doesn't he just move to where his heart is?

That's a "hissy fit"? I thought it was the news.

Re smart phones and technology in general -- I don't like spending money on stuff I don't really need. Yes, they are cool, but so are a lot of things.

Not a judgment of people who buy them. Just not me.

Sanity -> RE: Verizon To Lay Off 1,700 Workers After Paying CEO $22 Million Last Year (6/10/2012 4:02:25 PM)

There you go then, sounds as though as long as you arent the best and the brightest CEO in the world, and are happy to scrounge for whatever crumbs your benevolent government overlords drop from their table... Norway is for you

Only in Far Leftist Land, as you say, is thinkprogress.org considered "the news" [:D]

If your quibble is just with thinkprogress as a "news" site, maybe you would like to look at any number of other information sites.
Are any of them "news sites? in RWNJ land?

So think progress is not relevant because WHY?? is the story wrong? Have they claimed anything that isnt true?
Welcome back

They must have more towers in your mountains than mine. They suck here. That's why I dont use them.

Glad to hear I'm in good company with my fellow non-smart phone users!

I prefer my dual monitors and full size keyboard, and dedicated devices over multi-function, so I have an mp3 player, a GPS, and a Kindle.

The CEOs can take care of themselves. I have more compassion for the workers.

There's more "crumbs" to go around in Norway.

Lucylastic -> RE: Verizon To Lay Off 1,700 Workers After Paying CEO $22 Million Last Year (6/10/2012 6:06:40 PM)

Me neither, as most of my day is spent at the computer working like the busy little buzzard I am, I dont need one. I have a cell phone, its simple, gets the job done and I pay 15$ a month.
My two eldest kids have Iphones/android but my youngest refuses to get one for the simple fact he hates paying the money just to be popular and connected 24/7 (smart kid)

Owner59 -> RE: Verizon To Lay Off 1,700 Workers After Paying CEO $22 Million Last Year (6/10/2012 6:19:43 PM)

One of the right`s worst traits is supporting predator/vulture capitalism and defending it.

That`s what brought the house down in '08', along with allowing risky bets with our money and a small army bankruptcy profiteers, like Trump and mitt.

What the left and every to the center(normal folks) of liz-lux wants....is an open,sun-lit process with EVERYONE getting a fair chance to participate in the economy.

So they DIDN'T lay off 1700 people, or the CEO DIDN'T make $22 million?

Or both?

If you found it on a far left web page it must be true, right [:D]
