Verizon has gotten several awards for having such a good platform for women's advancement up the ladder, having more than average female executives, etc.

With the US corporate environment such as exists, this means that women's face stomping of those below them is rewarded more faithfully at Verizon than at other companies, almost on par with men's reward for such like face stomping.

They (Verizon) certainly made every frothing effort to such reward when my cousin (two years now departed) was struck with ALS and worked 3 1/2 years beyond original diagnosis but eventually could not make her way out of bed without assistance 10 months short of full investiture (ten years employment at Verizon). They fought her every step of the way, to deny her everything possible, even before she had to quit. And not only to her dying day (the last of numerous "tough shit, bitch!" letters from the company 3 days before her death), but many months afterwards, tormenting her 80+ year old parents incessantly, knowing full well the situation all along.

I forget which private and government agencies all ruled against her bitch bosses, but it was fortunately a lost cause on the latters' part.

The first three Verizon Vampires in that process probably all got rewarded for their efforts. The last one, who apparently failed in the end, was likely taken into a back alley, ass-f*cked, then shot in the head.

What a good thing it is that women executives have come so far in recent years, and have contributed so much to the evolution and progressiveness and enlightenment of corporate management.
PS
She had worked for Verizon for 9+ years, but had worked for a company that Verizon bought 5+ years prior to the takeover. Ten years employment was required for full vestiture.

I am sorry to read this story, and it is sad.
But, there are millions of stories like this, and millions more happening every day.

Corporations often are altruistic and so benevolent, they have our best interests at heart, right?
Nothing corporations will stoop to surprises me, but we don't need unions.
ha

Marini, I'm all in to the micro and macro econ stuff, because I am forced to. It does make sense, to an extent, even the globalization stuff. Because there are always new hires here even as we send other hires to India. I know the exchange never works out perfectly, but please keep in mind that the US is the second or third largest exporter (depending upon year), and Brazil is an increasing USA importer.

We just go to work, go to classes, then our closest cousin dies, prematurely.

What a tremendous hit that was. Now she is just another stat. She was so wonderful, and so insistent that "it is what it is" that I can feel her spirit saying "oh please, do you guys have somewhere to be tomorrow, or what?"

No one like her.

If youre too scared to get a smart phone its probably best that you stay away from them. If your dish washing job doesnt pay the bills odds are you dont need a smart phone anyway

Ive had my smart phone for some time and I am loving it

Powered by Verizon btw, and not a hitch in the service ever

Even from the most remote high mountain locations I most always have service (and the Internet) right at my fingertips and I find the cost very reasonable

really? Verizon totally sucks in SoCal.. one place i lived in OC it never worked at all..

I ended up using skype instead for all my outgoing calls.. and since all my incoming calls with Verizon dropped immediately, all my calls were outgoing.. [8|]

Edwynn -> RE: Verizon To Lay Off 1,700 Workers After Paying CEO $22 Million Last Year (6/11/2012 4:31:21 AM)

"smart phones" are made for dumb asses who are still 8yrs. old in mind, regardless of actual age.

Why anyone would want to admit to that, much less brag about it, is beyond me. But then, that's part and parcel to that situation, is it not?

Irony is leftists using the Internet to bemoan private Internet providers... such as Verizon

You have a little slice of heaven in North Korea you know... instead of trying to change everyone else to your way of thinking why not just move to where your way of thinking is king

Obama left his heart in Kenya you know... instead of trying to fundamentally transform America into his own personal playground why doesn't he just move to where his heart is?

And here is a hissy fit from the right [;)]

the only thing i really use my smart phone for is reading emails.. since its a blackberry i can have up to 10 email accounts on it.. so i can see if an important email comes thru and respond appropriately.. i find that really handy.. so for that reason i keep mine.. my previous bb i used yahoo msgr a lot too but other than that, i would just use a cheapie pay-as-you-go cell for $10/m.. but then i am not one of those people that constantly yaks away on their cell no matter where they are or how annoying that is to everyone else around them.. [8|]

i have to admit that skype is the best thing going, imo,.. its not that much for an incoming phone number for skype either..

Yeah, youre right... having the Internet, cell phone, cam and vid cam, voice recorder, MP3 player, calculator, word processer, etc etc etc at my fingertips wherever I go is HORRIBLE

Kid stuff... LOL

(Sour grapes much?) [:D]

Edwynn -> RE: Verizon To Lay Off 1,700 Workers After Paying CEO $22 Million Last Year (6/11/2012 6:31:32 AM)

All good, mate.

Anyone who's ears are dead enough to actually withstand the sonic onslaught of MP3 is good to go on all this, no question. And I'm sure that the inability to spell "you're" properly was well in hand before this new technology dissuaded you from further pursuit to correct that. Forget it now.

I looked at my e-mail over a week ago, at home (OK, more often when I'm in classes ... what classes are you taking now?). I read the books on the train, my excellent Hewlett Packard calculator get's used at home, etc.

Do you use Word or Excel on the train, or while in the car?

Just curious.

The Jr. HS or 'middle school' kids are the ones I witness making most use of all this and being most vocal about it in public.

Glad you're keeping up with your own kind, there.

Nothing like being able to loudly plunk tiny buttons incessantly, or blabber about walking your dog to everybody around you and annoying the bejezus out of others while in the check-out line or for the entire 40 minute bus or train ride, so that all 60+ people know every detail, innit?

Musicmystery -> RE: Verizon To Lay Off 1,700 Workers After Paying CEO $22 Million Last Year (6/11/2012 6:56:36 AM)

Ah. So the actual facts aren't important to you, just the partisanship.

Liz is bitter....just look at the legacy of....embarrassment,failure,torture/fraud/treason/deceit,Katrina,Mission Accomplished....... all rapped in a lite pastry crust of the '08' recession.

You left out important features such as being able to constantly check your facebook feed and update your status.

Yes, I completely forgot about "MyFace" and "SpaceBook."

All good, though, as it keeps people pushing tiny buttons and to IM's and texting and ignoring the real world around them, other than when accidentally bumping into them while texting ...

I found out the hard way that all this (including cell phone) is allowed on all but the fifth floor of the uni library, except that that is a joke too.

Seriously, after being given free-reign blabbermouth in the first four floors, this is just going to magically go away on the fifth floor, right?

Right.

They call this a library?

cuckoldmepls -> RE: Verizon To Lay Off 1,700 Workers After Paying CEO $22 Million Last Year (6/11/2012 8:03:44 AM)

I agree, if ppl would stop buying smart phones, the economy would almost overnight improve since that would be an extra $60 or $70 a mth spending for millions of people at restaurants & coffee shops.

Maybe Obama and OWS should focus on the economy instead of trying to make corporations evil. You know, I don't like college & pro football coaches & players making millions either but that's America. If someone is willing to pay it, and people are willing to pay $100 for a ticket or if advertisers are willing to pay to sponsor it, then it's not our right or the governments responsibility to take it away.

That's where most of these ows nutts go wrong. It's their money, not ours. You have no right to it whatsoever.

Edwynn -> RE: Verizon To Lay Off 1,700 Workers After Paying CEO $22 Million Last Year (6/11/2012 8:21:14 AM)

You might be missing the point here, cuck.

We are just arguing amoungst ourselves how to spend our money, not involving the government, if we can prevent that.

If you think that Obama considers corporations as "EBIL!", then you have missed out on a lot of discussion here and elsewhere.

Much carping about the Chief In President (some of it well deserved) derives from alleged too-close ties to corporations.

AIG execs have no right to tax payers funding their 20 million dollar bonuses, let's figure that out first.

Sports coaches and the top tier players get paid millions because many six packs of beer and pick-up trucks get sold in the process. It's called marketability.

As little as that means, what have the banks contributed, other than home equity destruction and job destruction?

They deserve the $20 million bonuses for that, even from a marketing standpoint, you are saying?

Youre right grampa

Just leave those newfangled gadgets to the whippersnappers, you couldnt ever fathom how anyone could ever use that dang gummed technology for anything productive or worthwhile

No need to give up your mule team or your typewriter 'cause they still work perfectly fine for their age dont they

"Damn kids today, dont they teach spelling anymore" [:D]
