Karmastic:

Please explain as precisely as you can what the "penalty" would be?

When you answer, please keep the following facts in mind:

(1) Nobody even knows how many CM members would consult the list of fakes/liars

(2) Those people who DO consult the list probably have had bad experiences and, therefore, they just want to avoid (if possible) chatting with a fake or a liar.

(3) Consequently, the worst thing that would happen is that CM member #1 might not respond to a message by CM member #2 because CM member #2 has received multiple listings by several different people who have mentioned their experienes with dishonesty in CM member #2's behavior.

it's a specious argument that having a bad rating is not a PENALTY.

and you again ignore that it's allowing a bunch of anon people to give another anon person a rating, which ultimately is mob rule. it's not the same thing as rating a restaurant, and open to more abuses, and it's value outweighs it's risks and it's weaknesses in being easy to avoid with new profiles.

ps edit - thank you for your ideas, and sticking up for them, even if they're misguided. and your rebuttals were entertaining, like rational matter colliding with irrational anti-matter.

i'm using my 999th post to answer you - i guess that's fitting.

it's disingenuous, again, to not recognize that the ultimate outcome is that person #2 is penalized, because "GENUINE" people may ignore them or not contact them (right or wrong, just or not).

and you continue to ignore that whether the penalty is just or not is based on mob rule, or worse, by someone spoofing their IP address and voting down someone.

and finally, you continue to ignore that this isn't like rating some restaurant, and the "UN-GENUINE" people will just make a new profile, while leaving "GENUINE" people to suffer the "PENALTY".

sheesh, for someone who appears to be intelligent and articulate, you sure seem to avoid issues. hmmm, seems to be a pattern here.

I hereby inaugurate your own rating system, and rate you as "UN-GENUINE".

BKSir -> RE: Fakes and Liars on CM (6/9/2012 3:48:42 PM)

Oh, okay, I was worried that we were going to go a whole day without someone posting a "fakes and liars" thread. I think the forums would implode upon themselves if that happened.

pshornyguy -> RE: Fakes and Liars on CM (6/9/2012 3:49:24 PM)

Do you mean if you and a group of other people here consciously decided to lie about me?

Give me an example of the type of lie you propose to construct about me so I can consider what you have in mind.

(1) With respect to age, height, weight, etc. -- all of my profiles have the same info (or very minor differences

(2) With respect to my sexual preferences -- all of my profiles have identical information

(3) With respect to ANY question you might ask me about myself or my preferences, I would give you the identical answer that I would give to somebody else

So how would you and your allies concoct a totally fabricated story which could be credible in some manner? Give me an example.

Ok. So if myself, and every other poster fabricated reasons to penalize you, would there be a way for you to clear your name?

I 'pick and choose' who I want to respond to? I think I have responded to almost everyone here.

Actually, I've asked a few questions on this thread that you haven't answered, so I'm calling shenanigans.

He only picks the ones he can find a "word" in their response so he can fight with them....all others, that might actually give him a discussion, he ignores

he's more clever than that. he seems to address someone's point, but really just talks double-speak, then veers off into his next proposition.

high school level debate team.

edit ps - oh shit, this was my 1000th post. wasted on impulse :(

LadyPact -> RE: Fakes and Liars on CM (6/9/2012 4:02:06 PM)

Reply to no particular person in general.

Has it occurred to anybody else that the OP is bothered by people who lie on the internet, but believes only "honest" people would contribute to the list?

DrkJourney -> RE: Fakes and Liars on CM (6/9/2012 4:03:03 PM)

Hey congrats Karmastic!!!!

Karmastic -> RE: Fakes and Liars on CM (6/9/2012 4:04:04 PM)

yes, it has. i've said that in a couple ways now, as i think others have. i've even resorted to using/abusing his own system.

thanks DrkJourney, now this is me being spartan.

pshornyguy -> RE: Fakes and Liars on CM (6/9/2012 4:04:21 PM)

You totally lost me Karmastic.

1. There would be no "anonymous" people unless you mean that CM members are not using their actual names but screen names to post comments?

2. How does providing information, which you can totally ignore and never even see, if that is your preference, amount to "mob rule"?

3. Why does it matter if a genuine CM member decides not to contact someone whom they believe might be a fake or a liar -- or whom they otherwise are not interested in contacting?

4. I do not understand your comment about spoofing an IP address. Once again, consider this more likely scenario:

(a) You are contacted by someone who interests you
(b) During your conversation, you ask them some questions about their personal characteristics and their sexual preferences.
(c) You also ask them if they have profiles on any other websites. They say "yes" and they volunteer the names of several of them.
(d) You check one or more of those other websites (maybe immediately or maybe later) but you notice some major discrepancies from what you were just told in your real time conversation or perhaps during a former or subsequent conversation.

Perhaps you even discover two materially different answers to the same question which you asked at different times (perhaps 2 or 3 weeks apart).

(e) You consult the CM fakes/liars list and you notice that several people have listed the person you are chatting with because they, too, have come across major discrepancies during their conversations OR they have found major differences in profile information or photos or other matters which provide very clear evidence of dishonesty.

So--what happens?

(1) You can immediately cease all further contact with that person because you conclude he/she is dishonest

OR

(2) You can bring some of this information to the attention of the member you are chatting with and ask for his/her explanation. If the explanation seems reasonable to you, then you continue chatting. If it is NOT reasonable or credible, you can (if you want) discontinue contact OR if you are bored and just want to chat with anyone (legitimate or phony) then you continue anyway

Yes... his answer seems to be a pattern of accusations. Not sure about the multiple ID thing and what he thinks on that. It really is ridiculous to think there are so many liars that lie to us and there won't be liars reporting falsely.

pshornyguy -> RE: Fakes and Liars on CM (6/9/2012 4:10:08 PM)

No, you are wrong LadyPact!

Remember what I have said repeatedly: there would have to be a PATTERN of behavior (which, by definition, would require multiple listings by different people).

And EVEN THEN --- it would STILL be up to you to decide how to proceed.

Nothing would change from the current system EXCEPT there would be an information source (a database) where dishonest behavior could be listed....but everybody would make up their own minds regarding its authenticity, accuracy, and credibility.

If my proposed info list is something you believe to be utterly worthless for all the reasons you (and others) have mentioned --- THEN, you would NEVER even look at it.

odysseyIndeed -> RE: Fakes and Liars on CM (6/9/2012 4:12:22 PM)

But is it *really* multiple listings by many people? OR is it multiple listings by ONE person who has many fake accounts??
And how are you going to weed out the latter of those two?

is pshornyguy your real name? then you're anonymous. next.

2. How does providing information, which you can totally ignore and never even see, if that is your preference, amount to "mob rule"?

a group of people making a rating that can negatively affect another person is a mob. why quibble with words? next

3. Why does it matter if a genuine CM member decides not to contact someone whom they believe might be a fake or a liar -- or whom they otherwise are not interested in contacting?

irrelevant red herring. we already discussed the reality of penalties.

4. I do not understand your comment about spoofing an IP address. Once again, consider this more likely scenario:

it means that i can register multiple handles using different IP addresses, and then make many negative votes against you.

(a) You are contacted by someone who interests you
(b) ...(irrelevant)

(2) You can bring some of this information to the attention of the member you are chatting with and ask for his/her explanation. If it is NOT reasonable or credible, you can (if you want) discontinue contact OR if you are bored and just want to chat with anyone (legitimate or phony) then you continue anyway

bwa haha fucking ha! i can see that going well. what world are you from?

They do that right now---if they don't like what they see in profile information. Some people here don't even provide basic information about their interests or preferences -- they just input their location and/or age -- and that's it!

again, it's value is unreliable at best, outweighed by risk of abuse, and most importantly, easily avoided by the real ungenuine people who just create a new profile.

Lockit -> RE: Fakes and Liars on CM (6/9/2012 4:13:07 PM)

You don't get it hornyguy. A list like that could be falsely used and could have an impact on someone. How else do we have to say it before you will get that your idea is flawed and could be abused by liars or those with multiple accounts? It isn't rocket science.

amaidiamond -> RE: Fakes and Liars on CM (6/9/2012 4:13:09 PM)

Tell you what

How about you go along to the site that ALREADY EXISITS for this purpose... and add your list of "fakes and liers"

THen anyone interested can go and read it and you can read other peoples lists...

Has it occurred to you that I just showed you how a pattern can seem to exist when there really isn't one?  Please go back to My post before last.

pshornyguy -> RE: Fakes and Liars on CM (6/9/2012 4:15:38 PM)

I don't understand your point about multiple ID's. You mean someone who would create numerous profiles?

If that is your point, then I addressed that about 100 messages ago.

Regardless of what screen name is used, the same methodology would be applicable. If person "A" uses 5 different screen names (and has 5 different profiles), and if he/she constantly engages in dishonest conduct using all 5 profiles --- then there might ultimately be listings by genuine CM members which list the dishonest incidents by each profile name.

And, as I previously stated, YES, a serial liar will never be stopped because he/she will always create new profiles and start the game all over again.

I do not propose this as a single final "solution". As I have said repeatedly, it is not intended as a "perfect" or foolproof system. It merely provides information for anybody who wants to use it --- just like consumer protection agencies use comparable systems to provide information to consumers about dishonest businesses!
