I might have assumed to much, but I took it that the 'offer' was made very early in contact, too early to be taken serriously, and, as such, she answered sarcasticly. If the offer was made after some discussion, then she should probably only have used sarcasm if she trusted him to understand it as such.

I'm SO glad I stumbled into this thread! I've only just begun my foray into this world, and I have to say for the mostpart I've talked to some very nice people. There were a few that really threw me off though, when I actually had an opinion about something, or if I said my children, and my professional life couldn't be affected by my wishes.
