The point here is that what you choose to believe is totally up to you and what I choose to believe is up to me... and if you want to tell me I'm full of shit (or vice versa) then you don't, or shouldn't, have to state it in a manor that deadens the truth of what you are saying in an attempt to avoid offending someone elses delicate sensitivities. That's the nuts and bolts of her post. *Jewel*

Holy crap, can you imagine how messed up and complicated the world would be if everything were mislabeled in this manner? Sure, we can analyze it all under a microscope to see if it really is what it says it is....but wouldn't there be a lot less wasted time and energy if we didn't need to go through all that bullshit because there was no reason to believe that it would be anything other than what it said it was? Because it was labeled correctly in the first place?

Not easily defined packaged products, but complex beings. Complex beings, and relationships between those complex beings, can not be shoved into clever marketing packages. They can not be boxed and packaged and labeled like food. Their ingredients don't follow a predictable chemistry-set set of reactions when combined. The same amounts of corn flour and sugar thrown into each of these complex being produces a wonderfully different flavor from the other. Thus, I repeat - one man's cornflakes is another man's cat chow.

I don't WANT to stroll around upsetting people to the point where what I actually have to say goes unheard.There's little to be gained that way. I'm not even AWARE of polically correct terms in many areas.....I politely use references that seem close or correct. If I offend unintentionally, it's usually seen AS unintentional. Interaction can be tricky at the best of times, even with those close to us, people that KNOW us, people we love and care for.....we can STILL offend or upset....... all it says to me is that more dialogue is required. agirl

Political correctness serves a purpose; to make people question their negative assumptions and prejudices. If I ask you all to quickly list 10 movie stars, how many of you would include both genders and all races? PC underscores the necessity of accepting diversity. Political correctness also serves the purpose to make a point. I am employed in a clinic where nurses are assigned to work with certain doctors. People ask me, “Are you Dr. X’s nurse?” and I reply, “No, I am the nurse who works with Dr. X.” Does it matter which way the question is asked? It certainly matters to me. Is my response annoying in its political correctness? Perhaps, but I will continue to persist because I want people to get it. Maybe there is some over-kill in how PC is pushed, but sometimes it takes a bludgeon to get people’s attention.
