I had promised myself. I'd not participate in this discussion again, but it seems as though Racer Jim likes to take on arguments while the other participant isn't here....So, this is from Boston Globe columnist Tom Oliphant, who has covered and written extensively about John Kerry. "TOM OLIPHANT: The point that I was trying to make, Jim, was at the time that Kerry first became a public figure, the very first thing that happened in the Nixon White House, aside from the support given to Mr. O'Neill and his cause, was to look back to see if there was anything in Vietnam they could use against John Kerry." "TOM OLIPHANT: The navy secretary, the second navy secretary for the Nixon administration was an elegant gentleman from Virginia by the name of John Warner. Today he is the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and he has a view of this that is quite similar to Sen. McCain's. And it was his department that reviewed the documentary and other evidence at the time. Nixon was desperate to get this guy. This has happened before in Sen. Kerry's political campaigns: in '84, in '90, in '96. It comes and it goes with regularity. But the standard of clear and convincing evidence-- and it's easy when you leave out the exculpatory stuff-- is what keeps this story in the tabloids because it does not meet basic standards. Seems old Racer Jim in his haste, doesn't do more than snipe from old Swift Boat BS.... Claims of Kerry as an active duty Soldier at the time of his involvment with protesting....not only was he NOT active, he wasn't Reserve either, his Honorable Discharge was as of January3.1970. AS for the claims of not having earned his medals, from his gunner Fredric Short " There is no doubt that Mr Kerry saved the boat and crew" "It was a him or us thing(refering to the VC that was firing upon the boat)...seems a bit different than Racer Jim's diatribe doesn't it? http://www.snopes.com/politics/kerry/service.asp Amazingly different story from those who research such things, and those who served with and for John Kerry....imagine that Racist Jim, all that bluster for nothing....because aside from what parts you quote from others, your statements are FALSE....I'm certain we are all shocked by that....RIGHT? It seems that even the person financing the SwitBoat people backed away from the claims made: "A wealthy Texan, T. Boone Pickens, a top three subscriber to SBVT (the trio forked over $9.5 million, 19 others $50,000 each, funding the nasty smear campaign), issued a challenge last fall. At a conservative magazine’s dinner, Pickens announced that he’d give $1 million to anyone who proved that anything SBVT said about Kerry was false. Kerry promptly wrote Boone, accepting the challenge and offering to give the money to Paralyzed Veterans of America. Boone backtracked, added conditions, ducked, dodged, and changed his tune. It was pitiful seeing T. Boone do a Texas two-step on Fox TV where host Sean Hannity helped softball his face-saving, save a million dollars effort. Kerry’s crewmen were smeared along with him. They offered eyewitness views (never weighed by SBVT) to Pickens. “We . . . will bring with us Navy/Pentagon certified copies of Sen. Kerry’s full military record and his writings and the movie footage you have requested. We will sit with you while you go through them page for page, frame by frame and answer any questions you may have. “We know the truth because we were there on the boat,” wrote the sailors to Pickens. “We believe you will find this truth unavoidable . . .” No, he won’t. Boone’s avoiding them and their truth.
