TheHeretic -> Ryan Electrifies: "We can do this!" (8/29/2012 8:42:44 PM)

I just finished watching Paul Ryan's convention speech.  Excellent delivery, excellent content, and oh dear Lord, he is going to wipe the floor with Joe Biden in the debate.

I'm not sure what was up with Condi's delivery early on, but she got through it, and made a hell of a speech too.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing what Mitt brings to the podium tomorrow night.

In the event that Romney wins, Ryan's path is clear. In the event that Romney loses, Ryan may inherit the GOP mantle.

I think Condi sounded Presidential. I can see a governorship in her future if she wants it. Possibly the WH. She's certainly better than Romney.

Electrifies? Well he did something that rhymes with that. (lies).

I did think it particularly brazen to blame Obama for a GM plant that closed in 2008.

And oh dear lord, chock-full of absolute lies. I suppose electrifying lies are all the "republican" party has anymore. It's disgusting what they've done to that party.

Certainly more truth than there was in Ryan's speech, not that he set all that high a bar mind you.

Yep another factually challenged speech,
King John and The Sherriff of Nottingham, The "charismatic" liars, with no plan on how to move forward, except to dribble crap for the plebs and shore up their cronies.
Never mind trickle down, this is gonna be occasional spotting in the period of life.

The audience at a national political conference knows that the cameras are on it. It realises that its job is to look 'electrified' at whatever is said by the leaders.

Its a political pep rally... gesh

servantforuse -> RE: Ryan Electrifies: "We can do this!" (8/30/2012 4:45:02 AM)

I very seldom watch presidential debates, but I will be tuning in the time around. Eventually Obama will have to talk about the economy and his role in it. Ryan will wipe the floor with Biden.

servantforuse -> RE: Ryan Electrifies: "We can do this!" (8/30/2012 5:04:07 AM)

Most of the production at that GM plant ceased on December 23, 2008. The plant produced it's last vehicle on April 21, 2009. An Isuzu line was still in operation when Obama was president.

Is this the same Paul Ryan who's philosophy is so heavily inspired by Ayn Rand?

It's not like Paul Ryan is being touted as your average run of the mill politician by right wingers, but as some profound political and economic thinker.

I wonder why that is.

Could it be a 'true' belief in the teachings of Rand, which she described as objectivism? This proclaims that egoism is the basic duty of every human being. Any kind of social commitment is a sin against nature.

Only by serving one's own interest and cleansing oneself of any trace of altruism can a person truly fulfil themselves. Society at large can progress only when it is based on such individuals, each one striving to serve only themselves.

It's right here, but I warn you it contradicts the party message and you might wish to stick with your illusions.

tazzygirl -> RE: Ryan Electrifies: "We can do this!" (8/30/2012 5:13:08 AM)

The plant

In 1918, General Motors bought a farm implement manufacturing plant in Janesville, a city of 60,000 near the Illinois border. Production of Chevrolets began there in 1923. Employment peaked at 7,100 in 1978, but a series of five layoffs occurred over the next 30 years.

By December 2008, when President George W. Bush authorized nearly $14 billion in loans to General Motors and Chrysler, both of which were near financial collapse, GM had already warned it might close the Janesville plant because of sagging sport-utility vehicle sales. The plant was effectively shut down on Dec. 23, 2008, when GM ceased production of SUVs there and laid off 1,200 workers. (Several dozen workers stayed on another four months to finish an order of small- to medium-duty trucks for Isuzu Motors.)

So, the plant closed while Bush was still in office, about a month before Obama was inaugurated.

Our rating

Ryan said Obama broke his promise to keep a Wisconsin GM plant from closing. But we don't see evidence he explicitly made such a promise -- and more importantly, the Janesville plant shut down before he took office.

We rate Ryan's statement False.

If you go to the TEA party website, you'll see that they aren't exactly good at math. that kind of stuff is all over the place.

I guess it was too much even for FNC, which is shocking in itself.

On the other hand, to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to facts, Ryan’s speech was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech. On this measure, while it was Romney who ran the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold.

The good news is that the Romney-Ryan campaign has likely created dozens of new jobs among the legions of additional fact checkers that media outlets are rushing to hire to sift through the mountain of cow dung that flowed from Ryan’s mouth. Said fact checkers have already condemned certain arguments that Ryan still irresponsibly repeated

And after the GM reorganization Janesville was one of the 3 plants that could have ramped up again since none were disassembled or sold...the other two did, Janesville didnt.
