Yeah. but, but, you're a dude (Proven by the fact that you claim to be a single female sub and everyone who's read these threads even for a week knows all of those are fakes)

I'm always getting positive feedback on my profile / journal, so yes a lot of people must read profiles. I think I get a lot of messages because I keep a fairly explicity journal and because my actual profile isn't ridiculously long, annoying and offputting. You get back what you put in, in my experience.

I always read profiles. I skim them first, to be honest, looking for red flags or dealbreakers. If I don't find anything objectionable, I read through again in detail. Generally, if a profile has no actual "about me" section and/or doesn't have any interests selected, I throw it in the metaphorical bin. I also use Google image search to check pictures as a quick, easy way to weed out most--though not all--of the scammers.

I read profiles for a kind of voyeuristic kick. I like to see how much of the person I can get to know from their profile and their journal entries. Since I'm not looking, that's about it.

Would you take your voyeuristic skills and take a gander at my profile/journal, please?

I would appreciate your critique.

I was looking for a place to post a request for critiques and ran across this thread...

Happy New Year!

OK, I am not Steve, and I haven't looked at your profile lately, but I always liked yours! But above anything, your screen name gets me every time!

Happy New Year.

I love to read profiles...people fascinate me...Problem is, you sow up on their "recently viewed" list and then you get emails from them saying..."I see you peeking at me..just say hello". I have inadvertently ended up having to politely reject someone who would have never bothered to contact me to start.

The other side of things..the unsolicited mail...yes I have gotten a few "love your profile" or "we seem to have a lot in common". I find returning "thank you. What is your favorite part or which stuff do we have in common?"to be the fastest way to stop them in their tracks. What is even more amusing is when 2 months later, they send the exact same email.

**in case he doesn't fess up, the quoted part is from my first email received from Kana"

I have the opposite problem.
I don't want to meet anyone outside of town, yet I still get people from Kenya messaging me.

I love to read profiles. Especially the pics. I wish I could post one - but I've been recognized as this is past just the community.

Now that I've been reading and posting on the forum side, I've been spending time reading profiles of the folks who post. I don't do much searching as there I've ruled out most of the profiles in my area. I delete the messages from people who haven't read my profile, sometimes use the hide/block functions.

I don't have a lengthy profile as I am a rather private person but I do say enough that I expect some personal element to any message I receive. I find I have better conversations when I message someone first.

The scatter approach folks are annoying but they are on every dating site out there--they are the same guys who hit on all the women in a bar hoping one will respond but still go home alone.

If he's leaving alone, he's obviously not standing at the front door at 2am as the drunken stranglers leave.

I don't get the batch-mail approach. Half the fun of these sites is partaking in the art of profile reading. It's an amazing art form if people do it well, and you can pick out hidden bits of personality if you approach it with an eye to detail. To skip the reading and just email all and sundry just seems like it would only serve a rejection fetishist.

Hi M.Demeter9. Welcome to the site! :)

I haven't been here long either, but long enough to experience the same irritation you have...that of people NOT reading my profile before messaging me. However, after reading this thread, I see you and I are not alone in this.

As to how I've reacted? I've tried everything from being EXTREMELY NICE in telling the person I am not interested but thank you anyway and in return have been called : paranoid, a b*tch, told to get f*cked, go to h*ll...well, you get the drift. Or there's the 4 messages that keep BEGGING for a chance or tell me the person can change my mind. I have deleted, ignored, blocked, and everything short of burning their message (lol) but the same person comes back days later wondering why I was such a snob. Or they change their screen name and try another avenue. I can count on less than one hand the number of people who message me back thanking me for being so nice in my reply.

So I react the way the spirit moves me at the time I get the messages, and not worry about it.
I'm sorry to hear you are going through this as well.

Hi, I've not been on this site for very long, but have chatted to quite a number and variety of people. However one of the things that irritates Me is that an awful lot of people who message me (Other than the ones who just ask for my yahoo/email/phonenumber immediately) are that many of them have fairly obviously not read my profile before starting a conversation.

Is that a common thing on CollarMe?

If so, how do most people react?

That's the thing. Many people here aren't looking and don't consider this a dating site. I look at it as a bunch of folks talking about different topics. Pretty much the same as if it was dinner conversation at My local munch group. When somebody brings up a topic here, I don't need to know their life story to try to answer their question. I've never walked up to anybody in a real life interaction and needed to know their age, weight, gender, BDSM role, etc to say that I liked their pair of shoes and where did they get them.

A profile is really just a person's view (or fantasy) of themselves. That's not always the best way to determine what other people see in them. It's just their own personal monologue.

Plus, I'm kind of an old fashioned chick. I much prefer getting to know people over time, rather than be handed that person's shortcut (profile) for making their acquaintance. When it comes to most of the forum regulars who have been here for a while, I can probably tell more about them from their posting than what they have in their profiles. There is way more information on this side of the site.

I had no idea this was a dating site either until I started getting mail. I have a few other forums I am on for parenting and such so I never guessed this was any different. I filled out the profile thinking it was like the parenting board. They all have an area to talk about yourself. I changed it really quick when I figured it out.

Well as a guy who does use the scatter approach and who does send unsolicited messages, can I say that I am not really concerned at the impression I give to some people. I'm only concerned to connect with others as best as I can. If the people on here were honest, it's about all they can expect from a web site. I am sick of the condescending arrogance some people display. It's an open web site for heavens sake. If you don't like what you read, move on. Why be so critical? A lot of us do not have the gift of universal attraction and popular appeal. I am often desperate to connect with anyone and sometimes I get the the most unlikely positive responses. My dislike and frustration has always been the people on here who do not make clear wether they seek Play Mates or Exclusive lovers or stipulate an upper age limit. Ageism and misrepresentation is absolutely rife and so to are people seeking instant gratification whilst riding roughshod over the honest aspirations of less gifted people.
Good luck to anyone who has an active and fruitful sex life, but don't belittle the efforts of those trying to get a toehold and don't expect your outlook to appeal to everyone.

I read the profiles of people who send me a thoughtful kind of message - one I can tell was actually meant for me and not just spam. I also view the profiles of people who write things on the forum that are interesting or have made me laugh. Although sometimes knowing they know I viewed their profile makes me shy about it for some reason.

I read profiles. Unfortunately most do not read Mine. And I broke Mine down into two parts! Although I still feel its a bit all over the place. Blame it on my a.d.d.

OP,
I read profiles and journals if something catches my eye on the other side.
I also do perv profiles of people who post on the forums.

I get a lot of folks who email me and they obviously haven't read my profile.
My profile is really easy to read and breaks it all down.
But folks not reading profiles is typical.

When it's obviously that someone didn't read my profile.
I ask them something like , " Are we in preschool where we only look at picture books?"
Or simply copy and past my profile into my email response to them. Lol

I'm a smart ass I own that!
