Then perhaps you should create a thread discussing child labour and chocolate.

What raw meat did an African or ME culture consume? Those cultures exist in regions where parasites dangerous to man are endemic in prey species as well as domestic species.

Ethiopia has kitfo...a raw beef dish and absolutely delicious.
Inuits will eat raw fish and whale blubber while out hunting and fishing.
Japan-sushi, sashimi, raw chicken and beef dishes
Central Asia-steak tartare
Korea-Yukke
South America-ceviche
Italy-carpaccio
Turkey and Armenia-Chee kufta
Arabic-kibbeh
Lebanon-I have no idea what they call it but for a traditional breakfast they eat raw liver, raw lamb muscle meat and raw liyyeh, sheep tail fat.
Yucatan-dzik
South African-biltong
the Masai of Africa-raw beef and cow's milk

among many others

That is how I read it as well.

Multiple documentaries have discussed how the increase of animal proteins in diet increased the size and abilities of the human brain. Via evolution.

As far as 'better' proteins, here is one interesting article. proteins

If there are many then I'm sure it will be easy to provide one as a source.

Sorry sugar britches....I don't serve. Do your own google fu.

I wasn't the one who introduced the topic of human exploitation. And I have created that thread. A long time ago. No one gave a fuck. Big surprise there, considering it's easier to stick one's head in the sand than to actually consider giving up something like a chocolate candy.

LaTigresse -> RE: Before you grill it, ya gotta kill it (9/3/2012 1:33:46 PM)

Well there you have it.

You brought it up. You should provide the source, otherwise I'm not inclined to take your word for it. At all.

And I don't appreciate the condescending "sugar britches". I haven't treated you in that manner.

Weren't you the one who agreed with LadyHibiscus that human exploitation is a sad thing?

Yes, there I have it indeed.

LaTigresse -> RE: Before you grill it, ya gotta kill it (9/3/2012 1:36:05 PM)

I went to google and typed in 'the consumption of animal protein and it's evolutionary effect on the human brain'. A whole bunch of good stuff came up.

If you are too lazy to manage that....god help you.

Speak for yourself. I had no idea about the chocolate problem, and I am certainly not going to stand for it by supporting such companies.

Since we're going there.....how many of you all sport diamond rings and such? I don't do diamonds. I wonder if Aynne88 does.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Before you grill it, ya gotta kill it (9/3/2012 1:36:25 PM)

It is a sad thing, DD. It's sad that our clothing and technology is produced by slave labour, that our produce is harvested by what are essentially transient serfs, etc etc ad infinitum.

People are a blight on the planet.

I am not going to apologize for my first world life.

And you are snarking about children and chocolate with some assumption that I don't care where MY chocolate comes from. My point is that THIS THREAD is not about chocolate or child labour. Create a thread about it and we can discuss it.

I don't necessarily apologize, but I like to think that I do what I can to change things.

It's true that it is pretty much impossible to live without patronizing businesses that do offensive shit (which is why I don't sweat it when I eat at Chick Fil A). Some businesses are much worse than others though.

Not all diamonds are blood diamonds, either. And yes, she does.

We all live on someone else's suffering. Every one of us. I do my tiny bit, but really? It doesn't matter in the bigger picture. I help the actual humans in my community.

French as in France.
There are always exceptions to any statement. Foie Gras is one of them. But it's not so much the industry as the consumers.
Many in France still have a clear example of what their food is, where it comes from, and an appreciation for the quality and flavor of it.
That doesn't mean all of them, and it certainly doesn't mean you can't find cases of abuse, mistreatment, or shady/immoral practices. You can always find that.

Conversely many in the USA don't really have a clear example of where their food comes from anymore. They basically know it comes from the store, but everything before that is pretty vague or they just don't care to know. This is especially true in the more metropolitan areas.

French people are no better then anybody else. There were cases of maltreatment towards animals and disrespect of laws towards humanic ways of treating animals here. I believe there's still cases like this here, people are good when it comes to curving laws and regulations to do what they want.

But dont know if you're speaking about french people from France or french people from well, here, in Quebec. In France, i wouldnt know about their methods of doing.

I've had a class at university about animal ethics and they way they presented it, we are way behind european countries when it comes to respecting the morals of animals (if you believe in such things).

To answer your question, I have one item that contains a precious jewel and it isn't a diamond.

As for "speak for yourself"? I already did. I rarely eat chocolate and when I do, I know where the cocoa came from, which is not the Côte d'Ivoire. This is the second time I've stated this in this thread.

I think in these sorts of debates the bit I bolded bears repeating. Focus on what we CAN make a difference in. I don't think any of us can fully investigate every item we purchase. The metals in these computers we are using, are they all green and human abuse free? What about the plastics? Every single item we are surrounded by, completely green, conflict and human abuse free?

I don't think it's possible.

We each focus on what matters to us. Personally, I believe that the crusades we create in our doing good, are sometimes nearly as harmful as ignoring what we crusade against. It creates too negative of an energy. The pedestals we place ourselves on in our attempts to do good. I see it in many of the uber PC stuff that goes on in Iowa City.

Eating chocolate that doesn't come from forced child slave labour isn't difficult. If it comes from a fair trade source, then you know it isn't coming from cocoa produced by child slave labour. And fair trade sourced chocolate will say so on the label. I don't see it as being a full investigation, to parallel your words.

Is that really the best you can come up with?

Was it worth the time it took to type it?

As for believing the worst in others.....no. I actually think that most people will, given the oportunity, to do the right thing, as they see it. They will also usually take the path of least resistance and expend more energy trying to justify why.....than they might have doing otherwise.

Granted, my world isn't full of sparkly pink hearts, but I am a realist.
