Wasn't here for much of Bush's term Firm, but yes I have been consistent in how I feel about the office.

Good point, mike.

You should have seen the threads ... the President was hardly ever called by anything but some derogatory insulting nickname or convoluted negative play on his patronymic name, and this was soundly defended under the rubric of "free speech".

Once Obama came into office, doing the same thing - even slightly - has become racist, disrespectful of the office, and proof of demonic intent.

It was/is pretty funny (in a sad way) to watch.

Grins, ya:) I thought so too
Ill give the right their due, they turned a cluster fuck to their advantage because it is fairly appropriate they should celebrate "empty chair day" since Romney and his vultures in arms were responsible for emptying a lot of them. Most of those empty chairs belonging to people whose jobs went overseas or ended, just to fill their bosses pockets during the last 10(or more) years

Gotta love a bad photoshop job.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broken_Chair

Actually, its not... but I will let my first statement stand because I have seen it photo shopped into other pictures.

rob, that chair does have a significant meaning....

This really just cheapens it.

Obama cheapens the office of President of the United States... Your point?

I agree. The pres. is supposed to start more wars, preside over over another financial meltdown and lose 4 million more jobs say 2015-16. Then he will be a real working president.

I can see how a candidate who likes being able to fire people might be a bit ill at ease with Labor Day.

"Firing people" in the context he used it was very much in the line of a parent having to discipline a child: we never like to do it, but it is essential to the long term health of the individual and/or organization.

And no, I'm not calling labor "childish". But the fact is, when a person doesn't or can't perform the job, for the health of the organization, their failure needs to be corrected.

Kinda like Obama needs to be fired, for the health of the nation. [8D]

Seen any empty chairs around, dc? [:)]

Labor in the context Lincoln used it, would not be the same as "Labor" in Labor Day. If it was simply a day to honor those who work hard; who labor, it would be one thing that almost every American could get behind at any time. Since it's a day to honor Labor, those who are in opposition to Labor's current incarnation, do not have nearly as much to celebrate.

Great way to twist words, though, Lucy.

Lucylastic -> RE: Labor Day has been cancelled ... (9/4/2012 7:28:44 AM)

I didnt twist em....
and Im sorry but I think YOU are the one that doesnt understand the context, or the historical lead up to "labour days" around the world

His name, for the length of his term is "Mr.President"(when addressing him directly)....or "President Obama"(when referring to him)
Still want to offer that challenge ?

No it's not... His name is Barack Hussein Obama, even his birth certificate says so... His name was not legally changed to President Barack H Obama. President is a title, not part of his name. When he loses in November, will his legal name be Former President Barack H Obama?

Yes, I still want to offer the challenge.

mnottertail -> RE: Labor Day has been cancelled ... (9/4/2012 11:17:18 AM)

usually they just go with ex-prez, don't they?

CNN says there are 86 MILLION out of work

Forbes says 99 MILLION

Go ahead and stick with this winning strategy there Neighbor... I prefer the hope that comes with a change of administrations, over the empty chair in the White House.

All I can say to that Firm is that it would never have been, nor will it ever be,my practice to denigrate the office no matter who sits in that chair.
That office represents so much more than any single occupant.Anyone who does not understand that, yet still claims to be a proud citizen of this country shows themselves to be small minded, partisan to an extreme and hypocritical .
Just my opinion.

Rob, You might want to go back and rearead the article. In that 99-100 Million is included people who are too young or infirm to work or retired. I mean, by that logic, China probably has about 350-400 Million people not working.

They were calculating labor force participation rate which is the portion of the total population that is working, not just those who are able.

Glad to see that you think context is important.
Given that you must have thought the whole hullabalu over "you didn't build that" childish ?
