During a private fundraiser earlier this year, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney told a small group of wealthy contributors what he truly thinks of all the voters who support President Barack Obama. He dismissed these Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes, who don't assume responsibility for their lives, and who think government should take care of them.


Yayyy Romney, theres gonna be far tooo many who will agree with him, but ouch....

BTW I was a taxpayer when I voted for Obama and if I was still healthy I'd still be voting for Obama.

It's worse than that Lucy, I've been doing an annotated transcription of the recording right now. So I've listened to it over and over. What he does is declare 47% of all americans are sself-proclaimed victims who contribute nothing. Anyone who isn't completely out of touch knows this isn't even close to true. Not only are his numbers totally OUT THERE, he is tacetlly implying republicans view the poor just the was it's always been pitched by liberals... The rest of America are "Them", "Those people".

47% of all Americans is A LOT more than the poor.

And they call Obama an "elitist".

Who cares. Count on a new commercial showing Romney calling the middle class names, My guess is in 48 - 72 hours.
If it were mine to do? I would just run it raw and at  the end switch to a screen that says "What side of the 47% line are you on?".

Bottom line is this will cost him a good 5% when all is said and done. This is worse than "Read my lips". It shows what a sneaky shit he is.

BTW - You are MIGHTY NAIVE if you think this just boils down to an insult about democrats. Mighty naive indeed.

Here was Romney raw and unplugged—sort of unscripted. With this crowd of fellow millionaires, he apparently felt free to utter what he really believes and would never dare say out in the open. He displayed a high degree of disgust for nearly half of his fellow citizens, lumping all Obama voters into a mass of shiftless moochers who don't contribute much, if anything, to society, and he indicated that he viewed the election as a battle between strivers (such as himself and the donors before him) and parasitic free-riders who lack character, fortitude, and initiative. Yet Romney explained to his patrons that he could not speak such harsh words about Obama in public, lest he insult those independent voters who sided with Obama in 2008 and whom he desperately needs in this election. These were sentiments not to be shared with the voters; it was inside information, available only to the select few who had paid for the privilege of experiencing the real Romney.

Some of our right-leaning posters do seem intent on proving the President right about bitterness.

I can understand that, though. Given the economy, it must be incredibly frustrating that Romney's not well in the lead.

One is handing out money we don't have, the other wants to cut programs that are important to the less fortunate .

There has to be a better way!

Were I a member of that group I'm not sure I would appreciate the stroking and handling that his focus groups are directing him to do.I just might feel manipulated
