Kana -> RE: Update on Trayvon Martin case (10/7/2012 8:22:49 PM)

So thirty years.
And that's once (I'm being literal-lynching involves hanging)
C'mon. Argue from a logical place. Don't dredge up silly stuff. That's my point...

Race baiting detracts from any other arguments that might be made.

tazzygirl -> RE: Update on Trayvon Martin case (10/7/2012 8:27:48 PM)

Twice... the last in 1998.

These are literal lynchings that could be proven. And you wish to dismiss that it can still happen?

I dont believe this was a case of lynching.... however it does still happen

http://law2.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/shipp/lynchingyear.html

The number doesnt matter... even 1 is far too many.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Update on Trayvon Martin case (10/7/2012 8:35:46 PM)

Link doesnt show any after 64. I agree that one is too many but one person dragged out of a vehicle and beaten is too many as well.
One person killed for the color of his skin so his ears can be cut off (there were several) and presented to a "Religious leader" to gain access to the inner circle is too many as well. You don't hear a lot about those do you?

tazzygirl -> RE: Update on Trayvon Martin case (10/7/2012 8:38:26 PM)

No you dont. And yet to me, those are also lynchings. Unfortunately, the legal definition is a death caused by a mob... so without a death, its viewed as an assault. Has nothing to do with hangings. From the 60's into the 90's, much of the south was still ran by bigots and racists. Actually getting a lynching charge was almost unheard of.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Update on Trayvon Martin case (10/7/2012 8:42:26 PM)

Taz, I'm gonna disagree somewhat. Ive lived and travelled thoughout the country for 50 years. I've seen a LOT more overt Racism in the northeast and midwest than anywhere in the south except miami. Miami is the absolute worst because there are about 40 different ethnic groups that hate each other heartily.

tazzygirl -> RE: Update on Trayvon Martin case (10/7/2012 8:44:15 PM)

Im glad you said that, because I have seen the same. Living in the military, we traveled a lot. I have moved alot as an adult as well. Yes, the overt racism is more prominent elsewhere. The south has their own brand.

Kana -> RE: Update on Trayvon Martin case (10/7/2012 8:52:17 PM)

Sigh.
Once again you miss my point. Fargle brings up things that are pretty much half a century old, two exceptions, flat out plays the race card.
Which I think weakens all his other arguments, makes them much less effective. Because once people start throwing wingnut shit out there, it makes them a whole lot harder to take seriously about anything else.
And if there's one thing this case don't need, it's more hysteria and hyperbole.
That's my point, but I seriously doubt you'll get it.

So lets see, there's been two lynchings since 68-I'm sure that Martin was terrified that was gonna happen to him...you know, cuz it happens so often.

You want a stat that's reality based, much more a modern fear-try this one on for size...and note that I'm quoting from a US Department of Justice report not some wing nut site
"Firearm violence rates for blacks age 12 or older (8.4
per 1,000 blacks) were 40% higher than rates for Hispanics
(6.0)

200% higher than rates for whites (2.8 per
1,000)"

In other words, it was far far more likely statistically that Martin would shoot Zimmerman or commit a violent offense against him than get lynched

But I learned a long time ago not to go round and round with you on these sorts of things-you hear only what you wanna (By which I mean have pre-determined) and ignore everything else.

Gotcha.[8|]

LOL

I am from the south. Its different, even you have to agree with that.

Odd, I had already agreed this was NOT a case of lynching.

But you only read what you want to read.

Then why bring it up except to quibble over minutia?

Let me be real clear here. I don't have a dog in this fight. I could care less about the outcome of this case and have zero opinion as to whether Zimmerman is innocent or not. I'm not a lawyer. I'm not on the jury. I, like the rest of us, don't have all the facts and, unless I somehow ended up on the jury, won't ever.
But I can't stand to see folk make ridiculous arguments (That Martin was scared of being lynched)and expect to be taken seriously.

tazzygirl -> RE: Update on Trayvon Martin case (10/7/2012 9:22:07 PM)

I only brought up the cases you said you could not find. I did not comment on the rest. Its sorta what I do down in the dungeon. Not to argue, but to inform.

Ok, I'll accept that. Rereading my original post I did ask about lynchings since then.
Tips hat, bows

You contridicting yourself, you have repeatedly stated there is no evidence against Zimmerman, now you state there is.

Complete and utter strawman. You really need to stop making stuff up.

oh now look who is doing the personal attackes...[sm=LMAO.gif]

YOU say that 'reaching for a cellphone' isn't sufficient, but 4 cops who killed a man who was reaching for his wallet and walked free says otherwise.

Given the history of lone young black men being abducted and lynched in the south, I think that making the case is a no-brainer. But hey, we'll find out what the Jury thinks soon enough.

As I have pointed out to you before reaching for a cellphone does not make Zimmerman the aggressor, though Martin may have viewed him as such.

And if you did watch the video Zimmerman does not reach for his pocket he goes for the waist band, the side where the gun was. He says one thing body language says another.....strange.....

Umm, Farglebargle's demand predominantly specifies the 'unprovoked' condition. He does not dispute that Martin attacked Zimmerman.

Which is why #2 exists. If the State wants to claim Trayvon was legally provoked (that George is the aggressor), it's the State's job to prove it. If the State cannot show that Trayvon's breaking of George's nose was provoked by a contemporaneous use or threat of force (reaching for a cell phone to call police, or asking what Trayvon is doing doesn't cut it), then for the purposes of the legal proceeding and judging George's guilt, Trayvon is the aggressor.

Let see...there is no medical or any evidence what so ever blood, DNA, skin, hair etc. witness etc that Martin even touched Zimmerman. Martin medical exaim shows only a small scratch on his left ring finger, no swelling, brusies nothing on the hands, Zimmerman blood in not found on Martin on the hands. There is no evidence, medical or otherwise, that proves that Martin said what Zimmerman claims, nothing, no witness that state Martin was bang Zimmerman head on the ground or even punched him. No reports of how Zimmerman got his wounds, nothing about being hit in the nose or being slamed on the the sidewalk...nothing. Martin has no criminal history of violence, gang membership, robbery. As to Zimmerman an habitual lair, has an arrest record, including assaulting a police officer, has a restaining order against him by his ex girl friend, called co-worker names due to their ethnic back ground, tries to intimidate co-workers to give him their money, when confronted with his behavior he lies and manipuates and this is just for starters. You are right NO EVIDENCE [sm=brush.gif], but maybe Zimmerman membership in the NRA cancels all this out? And maybe your fairy tales.[sm=sad.gif]

Getting off point, Farglebargles position is that because of diallo and a lynching in 98 a white man acused of killing a black man must automatically be guilty. To lynch a black man because another black man was aquitted is evil. If 20 years later you convict a white man in an unrelated case because of that lynching it is just as evil.

Be fair farglbargle brought it up claiming that Zimmerman has to be guilty because of the lynchings in the south. I think tazzygirl believes some of us are dening it has happened. If so her posts are completly understandable.
