Who do you think won the vice presidential debate? Who had the best closing statement?

tazzygirl -> RE: reactions to vice presidential debate (10/11/2012 7:50:50 PM)

Substance - Biden

Style - Ryan

Fp4 -> RE: reactions to vice presidential debate (10/11/2012 7:52:45 PM)

Biden won big time!

DaddySatyr -> RE: reactions to vice presidential debate (10/11/2012 7:55:29 PM)

Well, it would have been nice if they had been allowed to debate. At least four times that "moderator" wouldn't let Mr. Ryan answer an un-supported accusation launched at him by V.P. Biden.

Having said that; I liked BOTH answers on abortion. Between the two of them, they hit my sweet spot.

On Obamacare; the VP just sounded like he was lying through his teeth to me. I think he got caught with his hands in the cookie jar and didn't know how to answer ("How many times can you spend the same dollar?" was a GREAT question).

All-in-all, I think on substance Ryan won. On "charisma" (which is being nice to both of these men) Biden might have held an edge.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Being the biased republican that I am, I pretty much thought it was a draw. I do think that the smirking and laughing that Biden was doing while Ryan was speaking will hurt him in the end.

Constantly talking over him was classy, also. At least twice, he wrested the floor from Ryan only to have the "moderator" ask him to be quiet.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

I think they tied. Biden's constant interruptions didn't let Ryan get his points across. Biden spoke well and didn't make any gaffes that I saw. I thought what Ryan was able to get out was quite good, too.

The question is going to come down to the - wait for it! - non-verbal analysis. Ryan had a look on his face that said, "Aw, look at the old guy. He's so cute when he's rambling on." And Biden's smirks and chuckles may come off as condescending and arrogant (or that he was laughing at voices in his head).

I thought Ryan's finish was better than Biden's, but Biden did well.

Biden did a lot better than Obama did. It's going to be interesting to see if the VP candidates' debate makes any waves. Most likely won't hurt Obama at all. Will probably help.

Somebody should of checked Lyin' Ryan's back for a draw string. He kept repeating himself.

servantforuse -> RE: reactions to vice presidential debate (10/11/2012 8:12:16 PM)

Biden also lied. He said they had no information on an additional security request for our embassy that was attacked.

Hillwilliam -> RE: reactions to vice presidential debate (10/11/2012 8:14:47 PM)

I think it will help Obama a TINY bit. Very damn tiny

Face it folks. The main job of the VEEP is to wake up in the morning and ask the butler "Is he still alive?"

Yup

Truman was one of my favorite presidents!

subrob1967 -> RE: reactions to vice presidential debate (10/11/2012 8:26:43 PM)

IMO Charles Krauthammer summed it up nicely.

On paper = a draw

On radio = Biden wins with aggression

On TV = Biden loses by being a sneering prick

Ryan looked weak sitting there letting Biden talk all over him, but unlike Romney/Obama. Biden looked like a jagoff by interrupting and smirking.

Arturas -> RE: reactions to vice presidential debate (10/11/2012 8:28:43 PM)

I thought Biden had command of the debate. I think Biden had the smoothest closing statement.

I must be wrong since CNN has declared Ryan the winner by four percent. Four percent is not much so I gather that means it might be a draw. A draw is good for both parties I would think so we need to wait for next weeks Presidential debate.

Bonus points for knowing where that paraphrase came from.

TheHeretic -> RE: reactions to vice presidential debate (10/11/2012 8:32:28 PM)

It was nice to see both chairs occupied. If we go just on the words that were exchanged, I would have to give it to Biden, by a little, as the more persuasive presentation, and certainly in the content and delivery of the closing statement. Ryan came across as over-rehearsed.

Unfortunately, the Veeps demeanor was onscreen, as well as his words. I'm sure Chris Mathews will slurp it up, along with the rabid bits of the base, but I don't think going through the whole debate expressing contempt for his opponent speaks well for him, or an adminstraion that is incapable of working across the aisle.

If Biden's behavior tonight is an indicator of how the "too polite" last time President is planning to conduct the next debate, such tactics may very well blow up in his face.

Look at it this way. What does Obama have to lose in the next debate? If he doesn't step it up, he's, in all likelihood, toast.

If he DOES step it up, he MIGHT be toast.

What would you do in his $800 shoes?

Not show people I need to persuade to give me another chance (please baby, it will be different this time) what an absolute dick I can be. Likeability is about the only poll number the President has, still above 50%.

This post made my skin crawl.
