Oregon is about as far as you can get from Jersey, pollitically, socially and physically and they have the same law about gas attendants. So... um, argument validity questioned and called out.

Jersey is such a strong Union state . . . you are not allowed to get out of your car to pump your own gas. Ya gotta wait for the attendent. Just sayin.

Its not the only state with that requirement.

FR

Folks who dislike (or worse) unions may want to read up a bit on labor conditions back in the "good old" pre-union days. Two books that I've recently enjoyed cover the topic in rich and heartbreaking detail:

-- James MacGregor Burns, The Workshop of Democracy
-- Page Smith, America Enters the World

Are you sure you have addressed your post to the right person?

Perhaps if you had followed the thread you would have noticed that they weere recalled by their own company and not refused by new jersey.
Do you really think that calling me names helps to substantiate your position?

We dont know why they were told that.

We dont know who told them that.

Why dont you find that out and get back to us.

That would preclude shooting from the hip, would it not ?

servantforuse -> RE: UNION! (11/2/2012 6:45:45 PM)

What name did I call you ?

As most here on collarme know, I was a union member ( CWA ) for 34 years. This is one example why I no longer support them..

As some here on CollarME know I was a union member(CWA) for 20 years.This is one example why I fully support them[:)]

And, as it turns out, they werent told what they said they were told... and not by who they said told them.

servantforuse -> RE: UNION! (11/2/2012 6:48:18 PM)

That's wonderful. Do ytou support union members turning away help from non union members ? Do you think that the folks without power care who is getting the juice turned on ?

tazzygirl -> RE: UNION! (11/2/2012 6:49:04 PM)

Do you think you can get the story straight?

When you pump your own gas you are working for free.

Servant.....you can work for me anytime....at 50% more than the union pays (which is what I pay now).

servantforuse -> RE: UNION! (11/2/2012 7:04:07 PM)

Lookie, If they would send me out there, I would put phone lines up for free. ( and I was good at it )

You might think so. Ironically, in Florida, where we self-serve, we pay more per gallon than in NJ. Probably b/c we lack a nearby refirnery which NJ has.

As far as I know that is the case only at highway ?interstate gas stations...just sayin.
Edited to add....IIRC I have used local neighborhood self serves in Jersey....so I'm almost certain that is a highway service station rule.

(Why does everyone say "Just sayin"?)

It has to be one of the stupidest comments to (attempt to) clarify a point on the planet.

No offense meant SlvMike but...it's so....."then".

It's kinda done....ya know?

Really. From the late 19th C Pullman strike in Chicago to the coal miners, auto worker, and mass transit strikes in the 20th C, Unions contributed mightedly to the formation of a strong middle class, and kids were able to build a secure working and family life after leaving high school. Unfortunately, that was destroyed by globilization and digital/robotic technology. Just sayin.

It means you are not arguing the point, only supplying information or opinion.
