ORIGINAL: fucktoyprincess Again, if you want to be accurate, Obama is a social democrat. Not my definition. The definition most theorists would use. Most political theorists in this country (I would argue almost all of them) would not call Obama a "socialist" as that term is used. And if you said Obama was a social democrat, I would whole heartedly agree. And guess what? I am a social democrat, too. I don't have any problem with government collecting taxes and spending them on programs to help its population. But to consider this the same as "socialist" is misunderstanding on your part. And I agree with the other poster who said, yes if we call Obama a socialist, then we can just call the Republicans, Nazis. Again, it doesn't really further the important aspect of the discussion if we all start throwing around terms that make no sense. Calling a social democrat, "socialist" is like saying community service is the same as "communism". You are making a linguistic mistake. But fine, if you want to rant and rave about "socialism" and "socialists" then it is hard to take your comments seriously at all. I don't waste a lot of time worrying about the country having a socialist revolution. In fact, I waste zero time on that concern. But, do I worry that social programs that are helpful might be undermined? Yes. And again, that has nothing to do with being "socialist". I take it your education was entirely private, and that you did not go to public schools. Because public schools are a social program supported by government funds, and would be a classic type of program supported by social democrats. And if you did attend public schools, and also believe everyone should pay for the goods and services they use out of their own pocket, feel free to send the government a check for your K-12 education. Because the concept of public education did not come from capitalism. And guess what. The concept of public education didn't come from socialism either. Again, if you are trying to make a point, using the right terms helps. Otherwise you come off as an extremist no different from someone who calls Romney a "Nazi". Hard to have dialogue with people who feel affixing extreme and inaccurate labels somehow furthers understanding. You can repeat YOUR interpretation all you want. It doesn't make it right. Sorry. I gave you four planks of socialism and showed where Oblamer fits them all. You choose to keep ignoring it. That's fine. I'll treat your drivel the same way. Peace and comfort, Michael
