That sums up the attitude of those Texas Republicans who sought to prevent kids being taught critical thinking skills pretty accurately.

I'm not sure exactly what you are describing in your post, but it doesn't resemble any academic institution I am familiar with. It may be that US universities are quite different to ours. It may be relevant that the corporate influences you mention disparagingly are absent from our largely State funded universities and public education system.

Here 'critical thinking skills' describes teaching students how to analyse and evaluate ideas for themselves. It does not include teaching any ideology - rather it teaches them how to analyse and evaluate any ideology for themselves. Students are then free to make up their own minds on any issue.

I'm happy to teach critical thinking skills to any student interested in the subject - I would be loathe to teach any ideology (including my own) to them or any one else for that matter.

I actually once voted for W in 2002, and was beyond pissed that Gore, who actually won....wasn't MY Prez (try reading some of my previous posts, you may find me not the anathema you think I may be).

Maybe the Republicans will have the balls to run Christie next time....now there is a Republican that has something worth backing!

Mitt was simply a seat filler, it was his turn, just like McCain the last time.

No, Mitt was the real deal. His concession speech expressed that quite clearly....praying for the Prez, wishing him well....etc. McCain didn't do that. Gore didn't do that. Bush One didn't do that.

Romney was a class act when leaving.

That aside....I was pissed that Gore wasn't my Pres because....(I felt that was the deal we all agreed to).

So...when you want to presume my assumptions or positions....you're welcome to ask me.

Until then....don't.

Presume, that is.

Christie...he's a blowhard.

As to my personal suppositions....I have them. I expressed them at the ballot box.

And now...Obama is MY President.

Blow HARD all you want...place blame all you want....I'm on the side of the guy who Captains the ship.

And as of today....That's president Obama.

I just don't see it.He did what he had to do to get nominated,what the base of that party demands that a candidate do,move so far to the right so as to have absolutely no chance of winning in the general
And please,please do not be fooled by the popular vote,this was a rout of immense proportions in the College.Romney never had a chance.
Anyone confused as to why need look back no further than to the Republican debates,audiences cheering for,in no particular order: Abandoning the sick to their own fate,executions at the speed only a state like Texas can do,mass deportations,jeering at a soldier who admitted they were gay.
What kind of candidate did these people expect to get,save for the one they demanded !

No doubt about it,if the Republican party wants to examine their loss they need to look inward...and than they need to kick some folks to the curb(in a manner of speaking) before they can honestly turn around and tell other groups of folks that they are a party that welcomes them.
Do that ,please do that and once again become the second party my country so desperately needs.

That's lovely, Tazzy, but it pretends that 1) Everybody agrees on what the social evils are, and 2) That there is only one possible approach to fighting them.

Well of course not, Lucy. Alinsky's "Rules" is about tactics, and an "ends justify the means," approach.

There are several things I want to look at in the quote Tazzy posted (speaking of Tazzy, you two need to consider better coordination on your asses - it's very nice mind you, but confusing at a glance), but since Obama hasn't yet introduced a national handyman program where the government will come do maintenance on senior citizen's homes, I'm heading into town.
