I want to tell you all what happened to me tonight, and exactly why it is so important to have the right to have, and carry weapons, and use them to protect ourselves, is so very important, now more than ever.
About three hours, I was laying in bed with my computer on my stomach, with all lights in the house turned off. I have a cat who uses an electric cat door. My cat was beside me on the bed, and looked up with alarm, staring out towards the bedroom door, indicating she heard something that scared her.
The first thought I had was maybe somehow another cat managed to trigger the cat door to open, and got in the house. As I turned on my bed table lamp, don't ask me why, but for some reason, I grabbed my S&W .357 and cocked it while getting out of bed.
As I entered the living room, I turned on its light, and quietly headed toward my office, where the cat door is embedded in my wooden back door. As I neared the office, an instinctive alarm went off in my gut, and instead of exposing my body and walking straight into the office to turn on the light and see what was going on in there, I instead sidled up to side of the door, and used the wall separating the two rooms as protection. Then I simultaneously pointed my cocked gun around into the room while reaching in with the other hand and flipped the light on.
What do you think I saw? You guessed it. A man crouched on the floor with a semi-automatic handgun in his hand. He said to me, “Shhhhhhh,” very loudly and stood up while pointing that weapon at me. I kept my revolver trained on his chest and yelled loudly, twice, “Get out, get out!” He saw my weapon, and turned around and left through the door he came in, closing it after him!
I went to the phone and dialed 911, and glanced out my windows to see flashing police cars (about 6) further down the block. I stepped out the front door and yelled loudly to them, “Over here, over here!” They came over, I told them what happened, and they began the outdoor search with a dog.
Within about 45 min., they found one fellow (not the guy that broke into my home). After about another 30 min. they found another guy (also not the guy!).
After about an hour and a half in the police cars, the two dummies rolled over on the bad guy, so at least the cops will know who he is and will hopefully find him soon.
Apparently, the bad guy had a couple of warrants out on him, I think maybe for bank robbery and something else, and someone recognized and called him in. The dummy borrowed or lifted a vehicle and gave the police a run for their money, ditching the vehicle somewhere near my home. So, dummy bad guy was trying to hide from the police by breaking into my home.
Now what do you think might have happened if I hadn't had that gun and scared him off? He would have been the only one armed, and would most likely had, at the very least, held me hostage until he thought it was safe to leave. At the very worst, he could have wounded or killed me.
So, you all, what are your thoughts?
