xLaChienne -> RE: So are we a bunch of meanies? (11/10/2012 11:05:30 PM)

A few random thoughts: I'll admit that I haven't read the TOS, I'm not familiar with the guidelines, and I don't see where there is a particular theme or ideology in place for the message board other than it is segregated to reflect specific interests. In that, I take it to be a discussion board. Not a support group, not a helping hand, not a designated place to find solace. Does that happen? Sure. Is that the intent? Not from what I can see. Having said that - I wouldn't say that those who post regularly are a bunch of meanies. I would say that there are those that appear to go out of their way to spew vitriol. I don't see these people as leaders of the board or of a clique, even if others agree with what they are saying when they are pontificating or being especially repugnant. They rarely see themselves as being as much of the problem as those they are spewing on and honestly, it's pretty entertaining at times. Not for the spewee, obviously. Perhaps for the popcorn eaters. I can think of a few instances where I've seen posters blow something completely out of context, freak the fuck out, curse and carry on, and take offense to something that was not intended to be offensive. I'm not talking in response to an OP, I'm talking in response to a post from someone who obviously doesn't post much and isn't typing in what appears to be acceptable internet language around here. An African American Domme posted in response to an OP and in her response she used current slang. She only had a few posts under her belt. A few people didn't understand her post and instead of asking her to clarify, they jumped all over her. She came back, apologized for any offense and explained the context of her post. However, that was ignored and more vitriol was spewed. I haven't seen her back since. I've seen other instances in which something similar happened. Posters bashed for their opinion or experiences which don't line up with some of those with different opinions or experiences. It doesn't mean these people are too sensitive to handle the discussion board. It means that they aren't inclined or choose not to continue. It's not a reflection of their personality or integrity but of their tolerance for the absurd. You (general you) can have 20,000 really great, helpful, and charitable posts and it still only takes a handful to lead to a negative impression. Pointing out some of ones really nice posts doesn't negate some really awful ones. There are a handful of people here that I find to be hateful, spiteful, malicious, unpleasant, and constantly going out of their way to find offense where none was intended and likewise give offense where none is warranted. For whatever reason, perhaps their knowledge base or perhaps they are attractive, it would seem that the CM community finds it acceptable and it's par the course. I've interacted with some really cool people from here and I have no complaints with My experience. These are just some observations.
