ORIGINAL: littlewonder I've been on hundreds of sites and forums over the many years. Most no longer exist. If this one goes to hell as well, I'm fine with that. It's just the internet. Another one will spring up overnight. They always do. «I've pissed in hundreds of waterholes over the many years. Most are no longer drinkable. If this one goes to hell as well, I'm fine with that. It's just a community. Another one will spring up overnight. They always do.» See, in my world, that's called being a bad citizen. Which, still in my world, you're free to be, if you like. I'm just saying there's a reason why communities go bad: freeloaders, those that take without giving, that don't give a shit about the communities they drift through. You have captured the attitude very well in your post. When there are more posters with that attitude than with mine, a community goes to hell. You don't care about that, but a lot of people in those communities actually do. That's the essential thing with freeloading, and there can only be a certain percentage of freeloaders before things become a net loss. I can be that way, too. Heck, I have to discipline myself to act responsibly, as much as anyone else. "Quality must become a habit", as I often say. The corollary is it's my habit, so I tend to my own, and others tend to theirs. Sometimes I try to set a good example. Sometimes, I play the fucking white knight because nobody else is stepping up to the particular plate in question, howevermuch I hate playing that part. I much prefer being a devil's advocate guy, since that's my forte. Since the topic has been raised, though, I'm going to point out that I do mind freeloading. Not from slaves, as my worldview doesn't assign communal responsibility or accountability to slaves and I judge them by a different standard, but in others I do find it disappointing when the habit of quality isn't being cultivated, or when freeloading is a notable attitude. My "native" posting style is what I use in the Gorean section, and it's a bit rougher around the edges than here, but still with an eye to the good of the community and a difference in nuance between those identifying as one and those that don't. With a few, but at times notable, exceptions I remain more courteous and constructive than the behaviors I'm talking about here. This isn't because I want to be Mr. Squeaky Clean, or because I fail to appreciate a good snark. But because I care, though that's fading fast. IWYW, — Aswad.
