I did my part, spent close to $500 yesterday. Didn't see a single protester either

Scattered Walmart strikes don't dent Black Friday bottom line

Actually... most of the money I spent wasn't even for gifts, it was for stuff around the house.

It was a beautiful day yesterday in the Mid-Atlantic, pushing 60. It was a good day to be out and about.

You couldn't pay me to be in Wal Mart or any other store on black friday. I had to work any way.

I shopped on line. ANd I wouldn't buy anything from Walmart under any circumstances.

Walmart is a semi truck driver's best friend. Not only do they allow them to park overnight, but groceries are much cheaper than truck stop meals.

I like Christmas shopping. I enjoy coming up with gift ideas for loved ones, and I've been known to go a bit overboard with it. I get into the spirit of Christmas when the moment is right, and then I run with it. I also hate crowds, so I stayed home yesterday, and worked a bit on cleaning up the beat to shit old charcoal grill that will form the foundation of the complete bbq kit I'm giving my youngest brother this year. If I get motivated here anytime soon, I'll head down to the hardware store for paint, and probably wander the aisles seeking stocking stuffers (I go for little practical items), and inspiration for the handyman types on the list.

I am quite the opposite of Tazzy. I HATE giving cash, unless the recipient is in serious money distress.

The last time I tried to buy for my son, he was 17.... and wanted video games. So out I went and bought him 300 bucks worth... half he had to return because he had already played them, the other half he had completed within a few months.

Ever since then, its been cash/gift cards.

I wouldn't begin to buy games for a gamer, unless I knew exactly which one was wanted, Tazzy. I'd go for the high end headset, or the chair with built-in speakers.

All you need are promotions and bargains for principles and concern for the economy to go right out of the window.

He has all that. His room is a gamer's paradise.

That's what the wife wants to do with her office this year. Clever girl that she is, she waited until the new HALO was released, to get me on board.

Of course. She married me.

Getting back to the topic though, they actually had the Sheriff's Mounted Patrol working the parking lots of our local WalMarts this year. With local unemployment officially running over 14%, I'm not surprised none of the workers decided to stage any sort of a strike action.

I had to go to the grocery store and stop by WalGreens.  Neither was all that busy.  I went to the fabric store today on the way back from work, and while there were more people there than usual, it was not bad.
