Which goes back to my sarcastic but simple plan, give everyone in the state over the age of six handguns and body armor.

How about, instead... a novel thought. We simply hold them responsible for their actions. New approach. I know many below the age of 40 havent seen that for a long time.

A novel thought indeed. I like that idea.

jlf1961 -> RE: Stand you rground ..again in FL (12/2/2012 11:03:57 PM)

Granted, holding people accountable is a novel thought, and the civilized way of dealing with the problem, but there is another way to find out for sure if a person is guilty or innocent.

You tie them up and then throw them in deep water, IF they float they are guilty, since the water is rejecting them.

If they sink then they are innocent.

I hope it rains teddy bears and gumdrops and everyone in the world will hold hands and sing in harmony.

Hand-holding and singing requires drugs, not teddy bears and candy. [:)]

This is a really good example of your logic..by the way..what kinda drugs were you thinking about...are you going to share or Bogart?[:D]

He claimed the front windows were up and tinted.... the back were down.

Then he could see into the vehicle, back to my assertion that the state of Florida needs to provide all male minority youths with body armor and armor plated vehicles.
This would prevent this kind of stuff from happening again. White dumb fucks could shoot all they want but there would be no deaths, just bad bruises and maybe some broken ribs.

Changing this dumb as shit law would be a hell of a lot cheaper,no?

I don't think you are making any sense, in this particular case. Dunn claimed SYG defense. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I expect he'll not be successful with that defense. Would you be up in arms about "temporary insanity" laws had Dunn claimed the loud music was "driving him crazy?" I sincerely doubt (and man, do I hope) he won't be found not guilty due to SYG laws.

How many black youth have been killed without a Stand Your Ground defense? Are these the only two black youth killed this past year?

Race only matters when it happens to help politicize the issue. If it were a black youth shooting another black youth using Stand Your Ground as a defense, would you have posted this? I think not.

IMHO, the shooter did something wrong. Regardless of the validity of his defense claim, shooting 8 or 9 times into the vehicle strikes me as a bit excessive, not to mention fleeing the scene of a crime.

So very much this. There have been many, many shootings in Florida since the other self defense shooting in February. Many of them use SYG defenses, some of which succeed and some of which don't. The same judge hearing the Zimmerman case denied a SYG motion earlier this hear, then the guy was acquitted at trial.

Most of them we hear nothing about, until this happens and suddenly it's a big issue, for no other reason than it was a white individual shooting a black individual.

Unlike the Zimmerman case though, this one looks like the shooter is at fault though and should be prosecuted.

Huh. And here I thought it was burning them at the stake, and if they are guilty, they won't burn.

The difference between the two?

Witnesses.

Raiikun -> RE: Stand you rground ..again in FL (12/3/2012 5:42:07 AM)

That, and one has lots of evidence that his fear of imminent bodily harm was reasonable, and the other doesn't.

tazzygirl -> RE: Stand you rground ..again in FL (12/3/2012 5:43:13 AM)

No, just the witnesses. Many things could/would/should/did/didnt happen. This guy wont get off simply because there were witnesses.

Raiikun -> RE: Stand you rground ..again in FL (12/3/2012 5:44:16 AM)

Oh, and that recent developments in one case show that it's about to fall apart in epicly hilarious fashion, while the newer case will likely get a conviction (as it should, based on what we currently know.)

tazzygirl -> RE: Stand you rground ..again in FL (12/3/2012 5:45:27 AM)

We are discussing the Dunn case. Leave the other out. Witnesses in THIS case will be the convicting factor. Dunn cant lie his way out of the witness statements.

You claimed there was only the one difference. I pointed out a couple more. If you didn't want a response to an incorrect statement, you shouldn't have made the statement.

tazzygirl -> RE: Stand you rground ..again in FL (12/3/2012 5:49:35 AM)

A statement based upon you bringing the other up into this one. Stay on topic... this one is the Dunn Case. But I can see you are going to attempt to derail this one... and Im not going down with the ship.

I'm not the first to make comparisons to the other case. And since that post was about this case, it was on topic.

Raiikun -> RE: Stand you rground ..again in FL (12/3/2012 5:55:13 AM)

And actually, it was more on topic than several of your posts. And any attempt by me to derail this one is in your imagination only.

What does all this talk about driver's licenses have to do with some kid getting shot in the back of an SUV by a white guy who continued shooting as the SUV pulled away and left the scene?

Good question. What I am wondering is why the SUV took off, but didn't take the dead kid to the hospital? Or call 911? But at least they arrested the asshole this time around.

I dont think they left the scene. I could be wrong, but from everything I have read so far, they backed up, then he opened fire. It was Dunn who left the scene.

Ok, thanks. That just didnt make any sense at all.

tazzygirl -> RE: Stand you rground ..again in FL (12/3/2012 6:32:03 AM)

It didnt to me either. Will be interesting to see what the actual police reports say.

I didn't say Zimmerman was acquitted. The same Judge hearing that case (Judge Nelson) denied a SYG motion earlier this year. Different case.

And apparently Zimmermans attorneys released this today

edited to add that according to the release the photo was taken the night of the disputed incident, Zimmerman is in the back of a Sanford police cruiser.
